Just something i've been noticing latley is alot of patriotic pictures, that is if your american... It makes me wonder how people vote, does an american flag or landmark draw extra votes? I personally liked the transparency image of the american flag through water droplets and rated it very high, but i wonder would it have the same effect if the photographer took a picture of a canadian flag? We all would like to say that it doesn't sway our vote, but i may have thrown and extra point on if it was canadian. I imagine most visitors to this site are american and i wonder how they would view something foriegn to them.

I may get around to submitting some day, but it's hard being a student, too much work and no play.

Personally, it doesn't do much for me. Yeah I'm proud to be an American, etc etc.. but seeing the flag in a picture, seeing a landmark, it doesn't automatically get lots of points from me.

I rated the american flag water droplet picture rather high, but the flower water droplet one I rated even higher. Why? The colors for the most part.

There are some things that involve American icons/colors etc that I don't rate high at all..

I think it just depends on the person. But really, you shouldn't go around trying to please everyone. I do my photos just because I like 'em. Not "ooh.. if i take a cute little baby, wrap it in an American flag, and then have it holding a daisy in its hand.. why, i'll have ALL the votes!!" ya know? ;)

so yup, theres my opinion

I rated both the flower and american flag water droplets high as well. Like 9 and 10. Just because they were done so beautifully and the idea was so imaginative. I don't know that I would have given the same score if the american flag had been shot through a piece of glass that distorted the image. I don't think I voted it any higher because it was the flag...I have some Canadian friends too and I would have voted a Canadian flag high as well if it had the same impact on me. For that matter...any country's flag ...I just loved the idea and the set up of those shots.

Unless it was the Libyan flag :)
(not a political statement - click

I'd have to go back and check my votes on this, but I think the Flowers and the Flag got similar votes, although I may have voted the flag a little higher. It wouldn't make too much difference if it was Canadian flag, but this week has Independence Day in the US, so patriotic will probably score higher due to that this week.

I can't imagine that picture having the same power with another flag. That image was an incredible graphic display, and I guess the American flag is the most beautiful to me. It is one of the more graphically complex flags.

The South Korean flag is quite stricking. and I love Nazi symbols (though not ideas). I suppose the fact it was the American flag affected my vote. But aren't we always affected by the subject.

I think that one of my favorite flags is the Union Jack of Great Britain. As I have commented on so many photos around here, I think it's my fetish for the diagonals.. :) I do like the red/white/blue combination.

I also think the Canadian flag would have worked VERY well for that particular photo. The maple leaf would have made nice reflections in the water drops for sure...
