It's been awhile since I entered a challenge (a little out of sync with challenge subjects I suppose), but I did have my first opportunity to shoot with studio lights a few weeks ago. I didn't have time to move the lights around, but I had about 20 minutes to try different approaches with the model. As usual, your comments are welcome and appreciated.
The model is Meagan from OneModelPlace.com

Very nice work! I LOVE the tones and shadows that you used. Great depth and feeling. It didn't hurt that you had a gorgeous model, but you did a great job capturing her.

I'm no expret in model shooting but those are wonderful!
#2 is my favorite. I think it is the best!
On the other hand, I am not too crazy for #1. Her face seems a bit weird. too flat or too posterized. I can't say exactly what it is...
left you a few comments on them. I think you did a great work!!

I really like the third one and the last one. Like Jinjit, something that I can't quite put my finger on bothers me about #1, but many so far seem to like it, so you must be doing something right.
Your BW conversions are FABULOUS.

If I had talent, I would pursue photography more in line with the work of David Baily or Michel Compte. These are just a couple of examples of photographers that I feel can move from documentary to portraiture to fashion while maintaining a level of depth and honesty that I admire. I have done some model photography because it allows me to practice working with people and different lighting situations. In return, I try to give the model some images that they might be able to use in their portfolio.
There are many people producing pictures of pretty girls in perfect studio lighting against seamless backgrounds. In my first, and maybe last, effort with studio lights I tried to capture images that carried more emotion or implied a story beyond just the pretty girl in studio lights. After reading your comment and looking through the images again I am wondering if I failed in my objective...

I love the pose and lighting best in #3. It's sexy without being explicit. You did a great job moving her around to take advantage of the light in each picture. |

#3 and #5 are by far my favorites. To me, #1 looks too grainy or posterized. Keep up the good work!
