Pick a song, and then pick one lyric from that song and photograph what you beleive the song writer was trying to portray.
For example: Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone
I walk alone. I walk alone. I walk alone. I walk alone
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then i walk alone
I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the borderline of the edge
And where I walk alone
Read between the line of what's
F*ed up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And i walk alone
I walk alone. I walk alone. I walk alone. I walk alone.
I walk this empty street on the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone
You get the picture...(pun intended) anyways it might be fun to see how others try to depict what the song writer was saying.
Andy
ED: For clarification the Challenge makers would choose the lyric. The entries would pertain to that one lyric, photographers would not be able to choose what lyric they wanted from any given song.

Funny, just the other day I was just thinking it would be great to do a song title challenge, but this is even better.
I hope it gets selected! |

Sounds of Silence
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Why not combine it with the surrealism challenge and pick a song by Syd Barret?

I'm all for this idea as long as the song picked is something classic that just about everyone will be enthusuastic about portraying, since this site is composed of people with varied age groups. If Greenday or Britney Spears or something is picked, I don't think I'd be real into it. Not that I have anything against new music, I would just rather see a song that has already captured the hearts of people all over the world. Then we'll photograph lines from the song. Like Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Nick Drake, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, etc. (Not current pop or new corporate rock, blah) |

Oh this would be interesting:
Theme from Harry's Game, by Clannad:
Imtheochaidh soir is siar
A dtainig ariamh
An ghealach is an ghrian
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the day fol the day
Imtheochaidh an ghealach's an ghrian
An Daoine og is a chail 'na dhiadh
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the doh fol the day
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the doh fol the day
Imtheochaidh a dtainig ariamh
an duine og is aa chail ne dhiadh
Fol lol the doh fol the day
Fol the doh fol the day
I love the song but have absolutely no clue what she's singing about.
Fol the day - should make an interesting composition.
