Call in sick. I'll take the couch, you can have my bedroom, Calvert can have the guest bedroom. (grabs food list, starts updating quantities...)

Hehe... maybe. Depends on schedule and the weather. Surreal ideas aren't a problem for me- it's finding the time to shoot them. ;-) |

LOL- I didn't see this post earlier. I went through my list of unused challenge concepts, and many of them would be appropriate (naturally). Now to build some props.... ;-) |

Bring props you can use in a frozen landscape; beaches, marshes, moors.

I wonder is it legal to take a photo that I already have, print it and put that photo in the entry for my surreal entry. In other words I will be taking a printout of one of my photos that I took about three weeks ago. Put it as the backdrop of my new photo. That should be legal right?

I don't see why it wouldn't be legal. My photo printed out. Used as a backdrop for the current challenge. Why not. If anyone on site council sees this please advise. If not I will e-mail one of you.

I think it's perfectly legal to use artwork (the printout in this case) as long as the work does not force the voter to rate the artwork and not the photograph. In other words: if the use of the artwork is creative and not literal, it is legal.

If it's just a backdrop for something else, you're fine. |

I think it's going to be tough to get a photo I like for this challenge. It seems that when I think of surrealism I think of painting and I don't want to go take a photo of a painting...
I was looking through my portfolio to see if anything I have done could possible be considered surreal. Funny thing was the only one that I thought was close actually has a comment on it about it being surreal. What do you think?

I like 'Curtain'. '...Heaven' relies too much on someone else's act, despite the (desperate) tilt. ;-)

The parkeharrison link is amazing, truly dreamlike. Thanks for finding that work.

This photographer is less staged, has images closer to reality, but I think also he has observations out of place from the usuall. He was recently interviewed on npr, and I found these views of his work by accident.

Are you sure it's original like in 'actually painted by'? I hate to be a wet blanket, but apparently Dali signed loads of empty sheets towards the end of his life, to be painted in by others in his style. |
An original PRINT is not actually painted by the artist but if it's numbered it'll be part of a limited edition series and, if signed by the artist himself, is pretty valuable in it's own right, now.
