Good point, I was wondering myself if some people had determined which bridge was his entry based on his outtakes... If this is the case, it's a sad state of affairs here at DPC.

Yes I go agree Robert. Will did make a good point. Learn from your mistakes I guess

Well then we have to ask, how many people did you tell of your photo? And then if its around 10 people, then there ya go.

I never intended to reveal my identity and promote my submission. Instead I tried to stay away from threads and even posting up my updated scores.

some people have 20 accounts...it does not matter how many people you tell. It only takes ONE person.
02/23/2005 06:03:50 PM · #81
If people have 20 accounts on this site, then this site has way more problems than voting.
02/23/2005 06:04:53 PM · #82
I could see your photo getting a "one" I would not give it a one, but i could see how someone wiould say- "wowo those big ugly colors on graffiti, what the hell is that? that gets a "one" I could see that.

The problem is that, in order to appreciate art, its a different function than being able to make art.

example 1. there are musicians that you may love that list all terrible people as influences.

talent does not equal taste. kissing ass does not equal a good review. All that we can hope is that idiots leave meaningful criticism. That can be great.

Trolls? maybe or maybe just people with different opinions.

I think this whole topic is a little silly. Art is art, and everyone has there own opinion as to what that is. There is a scale of 1 to 10 to vote with, if people can not give out a 1 why is it there. I am not saying that this image deserved ten 1's. In my opinion it was a probably a 6 (for many reasons), doesn't mean I think there is a conspiracy that anyone gave it a higher score. My image got seventeen 1's, but thats okay because everybody has the right to their own opinion.

just my 2 cents.

[quote=vince31874] Well then we have to ask, how many people did you tell of your photo?

i remember i could easily trace it and i prooved right in that
i remember thinking..hmmm..zigzag..thats not a clever move
it didn t effect my opinion at all..i just cant think like that
i think its silly
its just the image that matters..in the box..out the box or whatever it just doesnt matter to me
i think its funny..little time ago u were in doubt if u were talented for this and made it even public and now ure standing there with wreath of louwers so i can imagine u maybe oversaw the butchers in ur good mood about it
anyway i wish u lots of fun and fine pictures for the future

If you know this, then you should be contacting the admins with the details, otherwise you can become what's known legally as an "accessory after the fact."

If you don't know this, you shouldn't be posting about it.

people really have that many accounts why would they need that many? I only have one seems to work fine to me.

If anyone thinks this is a just a coincidence then you are simply not looking at the data. This photo got 3.33 times more 1 votes then it did 3 votes. It is hard to find any photo that gets more 1 votes then three votes and certainly not a photo that scores higher then a 5. A ratio of 3.33 to 1 of off the scale, it never happens.

This is not a simple case of artistic differences.

Eeek... not the math, anything but the math!!! ;o) LOL

There's never been any logic, method, or pattern to discern in the voting here...at least not since I joined almost a year ago. Almost every winning photo gets one or more 1s and that's just how it is. Trolls, artistic quirks, whatever...it is how it is, and we might as well accept it because it's not going to change. Don't worry, be happy! :o)

Don't want to break the thread or hijack it or... but I would hope that a few of you who are interested might take a look at the message I posted under "Evaluating Votes - another take"

The logic here is seriously flawed. There are plenty of photos (and high scoring ones) that get more one votes than 2s or 3s. Why? If the photo generates a wide variety of opinion, the normal distribution of it's votes gets "chopped off" at on end, or the other, or both. The votes simply pile up in the last bin. You can find this effect on the high end as well, but noone ever complains about that, LOL.
I have done graduate level work in statistics, so I know enough to be dangerous. I have never found evidence of more than a few "spurious" votes on any image I've analyzed, including the one currently in question.

Truer words never posted here : )

And on the radio, just NOW, the newscaster was using the famous phrase "Lies, damned lies, and statistics."

I dont know anyone with 20 accounts..I was just posting a thread to consider the possibilities. 20 of them is really exaggerated. I meant more than one!

Normally I would agree with you and in fact I have often stated that people should not be worried about 1 votes. But this goes well beyond anything we have ever seen before, nothing even comes close to this.

Thats Ok. I was just confused. It happens.

As a matter a fact, I just made a mistake and hit the report button. So the SC can ignore that one.

:)

Troll = Imaginary being often used as an excuse for low scores.
