silly silly newbie.
rules are for losers, not for artists
art is subjective.

any rules anyone gives you, take those rules and add $100 and go buy your self a cup of coffee.

worthless.

oh, all except for cat pictures. always give them a ten.

9. All photographs that are 160x160 pixels should be voted 2 or less. DPC allows the larger dimension to be 640, so if a photo is less than that, vote it down.

Robt.

The problem with good satire is that it states the obvious, complete, and simple truth, only couched in terms calculated to ensure that the jester is laughed at and not killed.

I think your post quite reasonably describes the actual results of the average challenge.

Vote as fast as you can... any image that doesn't smack you in the face when you open it doesn't deserve to be looked at more than the time it takes to click a score and move on.

If the image doesn't look bright and crisp on your 5-year old monitor, be sure it gets a low score and even a comment to the effect that it looks dark and flat.

If an image doesn't obey the "rules" i.e. the rule of thirds, make it pay with a low score.

If it's in black and white, suggest it would look better in color. If in color, suggest it would look better in black and white.

Anything with a border gets an automatic "1".

Be sure to leave lots of single word comments such as "boring", or "cliche" or "sucks". If the person can't figure out what you mean, they shouldn't be here!

Remember, it's up to us to teach these would-be photographers a thing or two.

vote on all photos as if they are legal. Do not vote a photo lower because you suspect an illegal technique, instead vote it entirely on its merits, and request validation/DQ of the photo. Otherwise, you end up penalizing completely legal shots unnecessarily.

This is a real rule which is, unfortunately, frequently disregarded.

If people complaine about your votes, put a paper bag over your head.

Vote any way you please. It's your vote!

I wish people would take into account what challenge you are in when voting. Don't tell me to spot edit out this and that when I can't spot edit in a challenge.

Sorry to be the damper on the fun, but here's the official word on challenge voting from the rules:

Each challenge will state its dates for voting. Users should rate each and every photograph in the challenge on a scale of 1 to 10 (with "1" being a "bad" photo and a "10" being a "good" photo). At the end of the week, the photograph holding the greatest average of votes will be declared the winner of that challenge. Second and third place photographs will also be recognized. While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly.

Photographs are shown in the voting area in random order for each user. Absolutely no other preference is applied to non-rated photographs. Once a photo is rated, it is shown on the main voting page along with other submissions with the same rating. Users may adjust their votes directly from this thumbnail-view page only after casting an initial vote for an image -- it is unfair to vote on the quality of a photograph based solely on a server-generated thumbnail of that image.

Users are highly encouraged to leave comments on a photograph by using the comment box under each photograph. Criticism, praise, and other constructive comments are all welcome. Blatantly slanderous, rude, or profane comments may be removed, and the owners of such comments may be suspended or lose their accounts. If you feel a photograph deserves a vote of 1, 2 or 3, please include a comment with your vote explaining why you felt it deserved a "below average" score.

Users must vote on at least 20% of the entries in order to have their votes counted towards the averages. Until a user votes for 20% of the images in a challenge, his votes are ignored. Voting patterns are also automatically monitored. Users whose vote patterns suggest an intent to unfairly disrupt the system will have their votes ignored and may be suspended from site functions. DPChallenge also monitors and enforces a strict policy against fraudulent accounts and 'ghost' ballots. Any attempts to alter the point totals in any way for any photograph will result in immediate loss of account and a ban from the site. Photographs by any participating parties may also be removed from past or current challenges.

A person may only hold one DPChallenge account and may submit only one photograph per challenge. A user will not be able to vote on his or her own entry.

Hope that helps, now carry on with the frivolity!

Think you missed the original point of the thread. Was about un-official rules based on aestetics.
