A lot has to do with having a steady hand.

I don't own a tripod yet (because I'm not going to buy a cheap one) and yet have some of my DPCPrints in hand that are nice and sharp:
- 1/15 sec. 16x20"

- 1/20 sec. 16x20"

- 1/40 sec. 16x24"

Hold your breath and gently squeeze - it's free! LOL

If and when you get a decent one, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes, particularly at these shutter speeds.

If you want a quick visual indication why, hold a laser pointer in your hands and point it at a wall. Hold it in one spot for any amount of time. See how stable that is.

i used to work at wolf and whoever told you that didn't know what they were talking about. we printed peoples 1 and 2 mp photos at 8x10 if they want, sometimes they turn out pretty decent. the fact is that a 1 mp and 6 mp photo will look the same on a 4x6 because all the rest of the information is unneeded, the computer tosses the extra pixel data and resizes to what it needs. People printed 20x30's off their rebel, and while not amazing they turned out pretty darn good, usually as good as a print from 35 mm blown up would be.
