Therefore, in my opinion, phyicical pain is valid if the emotional aspect is tied in (which can be done through use of facial expression, posture as a rection to pain, etc.)

I would agree with this but many of the photos donĂ¢€™t show a face at all and many donĂ¢€™t have a person in them. Clearly a whole lot of people did not share my views on this when they were taking their photo, so I am just going to sit this one out and let others to the voting. To be honest for the most part the photos are that interesting to look at.

When the voting is all done I will look at the top ten or so, I am sure there will be some very good ones in there somewhere, I just don't want to look for them.

I'm sure I'll probably cop a lot of flak on this, but for those people who did put the effort in to do a 'genuine' photo for this challenge, don't you think it's a little selfish not to take the time to put a few votes in because of personal tastes? There have been lots of photos which I have seen which I don't necessarily agree with but I still vote on the photo itself. If the photo is crap, vote it as such!

I entered a picture of emotional pain, because taking the photograph and putting it up for challenge made the model feel better about his/her loss. The score isn't really important in this case, but thus far it isn't doing too shabby. And also, if I enter a challenge I also vote.

I am not too worried about being selfish, I have given way more votes then I have received, I have given way more comments then I have received, I did not enter this challenge, sorry I just don't feel even a little obligated to vote on this one.

LOL, I didn't realize it was a candid pain challenge.

I couldnt care less. My vote is based on how much an image appeals to me. To me, obviously fake images are a turn-off.

This is only my second challenge that I entered. Personally I think my second attempt is much better than my first, LOL obviously the voters don't think so, only a 4.8 after 40 or so votes. I figured that a lot of people would shy away from this challenge, since there was about 40 less entries in this one.

I browsed through the entries and don't see too much that stimulates my interests, much like the road signs challenge.

Well anyways it's not the ribbon that matters, it is the learning experience. I just wish that I could actually get some feedback. It would be nice to know why I am getting so many "below average" votes. Not just for the sake of my score, but for the fact that I want to know what I did right or wrong.

I don't hold anybody's vote against them. In my mind a person's personal taste is their own business, I am more interested in "why this picture deserved this vote, and what can be done to make it better", no matter what the score is.

Like I said I found the road signs challenge a little hard to give a fair vote, on a boring subject to begin with anyways. So I don't expect someone who is unintersted in the topic to go in all excited like, and vote their a$$es off. I can see why some people would shy away from it. In my mind the topic can be interpreted so many ways, that it would be impossible to capture a perfect picture of the emotion of pain. I think this will be a reason that a lot of pictures will struggle with their scores.

A very hard challenge, and I can't wait to see the top ten pics!

This challenge will have the maximum number of 2s I've ever given, for completely unimaginative thinking. (actually, I rarely vote anything but 100x100 images less than a 4, so this is a first for me)

The ones I've liked either capture real emotion (defeat or loss) or had a creative interpretation to the challenge.

Wow, that's pretty narrow minded. So, we were all supposed to carry our cameras around everywhere we went and wait for someone to be in pain and then snap a candid of them? Jeez I don't remember that being in the challenge description. That's a pretty sad reason to vote down an image.

So what you're saying is any image that is posed is a turn off? So your entry for the Touch challenge was a picture of a "fake" handshake and should have been voted down for that? Or did you walk around with your camera, waiting for the perfect handshake that struck your interests?

If you are going to vote down an image for that, my advice to you is to not be a hypocrite. You can get away with it, but in your mind, it is not right for anybody else to do?

I agree when ppl say that tehre are too many shots that are extremelly fake and stuff, but plz! Give some credit for ppl's imagination!
Saying something is gross won't help anything! Explain them why you have voted/commented this or that way!

First challenge as member and it's not too good. I actually thought this picture would work but it's too dark, apparently. Ah well, I liked it anyway.

Mediocre 5.x, as is usual. It'll probably drop lower... but that's okay, I don't care. It was nice to do this challenge and release all the grief I had built up from last year. :)

I haven't had a chance to look at any of the images yet. I will vote on them tonight if I can deal with it. I hope there are not too many bad pictures in there. I am satisfied with my shot. I took it yesterday at about 4 p.m. I didn't have much time to edit and submit. Had to leave at 5 to take my oldest daughter to gymnastics. I waited so long I left myself hardly any time to edit. I took about five shots and had to just go with one. I didn't have time to play with them all and decide which was best.

i wasn't gonna submit, but the girlfriend liked it, so i went with it :)

Technically this is my strongest photo yet, I was really proud of it when I submitted it, and it's now getting the second worst score I've received. I'm going to be happy with it whatever the score is, but when I looked at my screen this morning it was like the wind was knocked out of me.

My only hope is that some people will vote with technical details in mind to overrule those who've marked it down because it's a posed picture...

I find the various different approaches to solving and submitting to this challenge(staged, real, physical, emotional, etc) refreshing. I think it's great to see how many different ideas people came up with and the different realms of pain they expressed. I'll determine my vote on the photograph based on quality and expression, not how similar it is to my perceived definition of pain...the first dictionary I grabbed has has six of them.

What I can't understande is: Who in the world, would inflict pain to his/herself just for the sake of this challenge!
Of course all shots that demonstrate phisical pain are just posed ones!
No1 would hammer the finger, stick a needle under the nail, hit it's own crotch, and so on. I mean, no normal person would do that!
There is too many ppl complaining about the shots been posed, but nobody posting about the quality of the photos.
That, linked to the challenge subject, must also be considered!
If the pics don't show PAIN as proposed, or don't show it under your point of view, judge it based on the technique, for christ's sake!

My pic itself isn't the best, and I don't have the proper equipment, but cmon, lets try to see ppl's effort on shoting/composing their images!

I'm not feeling much pain right now... but I'm sure that will change soon. ;o)

I don't usually like to put my score up but I guess I will at this point since I might not be in that boat again (I hope I will be) ...

So.... I'm proud to say that I've swam with the BIG Fish for a brief moment in time.

My score at that time was

A posed handshake was still a 'touch'. Tomato ketchup poured around sharp objects does not show the emotion pain.

Btw, you'd make a good politician, since you're obviously not a hypocrite, go for it!

I agree, but it's the nature of the voting on this site that if the subject matter runs contrary to a person's personal taste, they vote the image down (and a good title earns extra points). I knew before I submitted my shot that I'd lose points for the subject matter, but I don't care. It's my 2nd challenge entry, and I'll be happy to beat my first shot's score/rank. I just don't want to be beaten by lesser quality images.

Well this "BIG" fish lost his swim bladder overnight! LOL
It's the thrill of being on top of the rollercoaster, then comes the big plunge - my usual now.
