I'm kind of impressed with this Pain Challenge...

213 Challenge Entries and this is one of the first times that I recall getting a lot more votes then challenge entries...

I think it's painful that a larger than average amount of people submitted tiny photos. Usually I run into 2 or maybe 3 per challenge. So far I've seen about 5 or 6 and I'm less than halfway through the entries. The only thing in pain are my eyes from straining to see!

So many cliches in this challenge! Fake blood, cemetaries, suicide. Agh. There were a few good photos with good ideas and composition, however.

I also *hate* it when people use the title to explain their picture. This isn't the "try to take a normal object/situation and make it seem sad by writing a sad title" challenge. The photo needs to speak for itself, esp. in this challenge.

I didn't think this challenge was too disturbing because of the content, just not alot of creative and effective photos, imho.

I didn't enter, as my son had a really bad acciedent inwhich he semi amupated his top of his finger, and I thought it was an omen/bad idea to even think about getting my camera out...Although out of hospital and on the mend I haven't had time to vote. So I will be interested to see who wins...but the ones who have favourites are more likely to win...thats what I think...but good luck to you all.

I've climbed from a 4.4 to a 4.6 in the last 24hours. Just don't think it is good enough to hit a 5.

Bad Idea... let me guess... score started going down after the post, just like mine... ouch. How do you say 1 without saying Ouch... that hurts... and right after it's like hmmmm WHY.

Oh well peoples opinions.... at least this should be in my list of Highest Rated Photographs ... that works for me...

Looks like I'm in the same boat as a lot of others. On the positive side, I'm getting lots of comments which are both positive and helpful and a small number from those who have misinterpreted my shot.

But it's all good!

This is killing me as well! I thought I had a very good chance of scoring between 5 and 6 on this one. Maybe next time. I'm still learning of course and the new camera is throwing me off a lot!

My photo is getting torn up again. Guess I shouldn't have submitted on a last minute situation.

You see, that's what I love the most about this challenge. It's actually pretty easy to make beautiful shots when you are lucky enough to live in (or even been lucky to know) a gorgeous place. With lots of sightseeing. Waterfalls, mountais, bridges, paradise beaches and stuff.
But when you have to come up with a solution for something you can't find laying around, the results of it are a lot more pleasant than just shooting something that is naturally beautiful.

my 2 cents

Funny how you made a reference to 1984 because in my challenge entry I put a quote from George Orwell in my description.

... maybe were on the same page here....

I like the pain challenge, even though Im not doing incredible. It seems it struck a creative nerve in people even moreso than the movie themes challenge.

I'm fairly disappointed with the results of this challenge so far. Some of the comments have ridiculed my entry, which was NOT staged nor did it portray faked pain.... Ya never know.

I actually got a comment that, while the person said that they didn't agree with my photo -- and I respect that -- validated what I was trying to do and going for with my submission. My score isn't doing well, but the whole idea behind my shot for the challenge has been acknowledged, and for that I'm happy.

As to the argument over the validation of certian types of Pain pictures, the fact is that 215 different pictures were submited, and exactly the same nuber of angles were taken on how to respond to the challenge. Of course, that hits quite a vast spectrum of ideas. There's many definitions for 'pain,' and it should be concluded that 215 people are not going to all go after the same one.

Different pictures stir up emotions differently in different viewers. I must say that some of the photos based on emotionally-triggered pain hit pretty close to home for me and stirred me up inside quite a bit. What do I think about that? I think those photographers must've responded to the challenge quite well--pain accomplished! Well done. And those of us who went after the bloody side of it? I've noticed that we've gotten some pretty negative rections--I guess we succeeded in attaining 'pain' as well; we certianly stirred up some emotions.

It's okay that we all have different ways of expressing a multi-definitioned theme. After all, it's not 1984.

I'm such a whimp. Can't handle any more votes on this challenge. I do apologize (for my whimpiness, because I do like the voting process).
