Did you check out the new Nikon? (D2X) Heck of a camera!!!

Oh the Hasselblad digital back + Hasselblad is incredible. Can't say much about it, only seen it, not used it. I do know that it has a reservoir of memory outside the camera, can hold 80 or so tifs, has a pretty lousy frame rate, incedible quality, and other things.

What's wrong with a 1DsII? Seems like the most powerful camera for what it does.

How about the Hasselblad H1D? Only $22,000, or 1 grand per megapixel -cough. I've used film Hassy's a while back, and they are incredible. I'm not sure about digital though.

Why do people post without reading the thread?

Yes and no.

Yes and no.

That's what I thought.

I have no idea. But, we could talk about them -- content that if they don't read the first part of the thread, they are not likely to read the rest of it either. :p

Seriously, I am no real help here as I have no experience with SLRs; but have you considered writing Canon corporate headquarters and asking the same question -- "What is a good replacement for the 1Ds since your repair service sucks?" Could be helpful to blow off steam -- and you just might get hold of someone that can help.

And maybe a replacement 1Ds. When the Toronto service centre took too long in repairing one of my lenses they just sent me a new one (prompted by my questioning the time frame).

No company likes bad press therefore writing a polite letter explaining your disappointment. This is an understatement I know but to get what you want you usually get more with honey. Just a thought.

If you only knew how many hours I have spent on the phone with the wonderful people at Canon.

Man nsbca7, you seem to have problems with Canon that others do not, after some drunk girl fiend throws you camera out the window. For what ever reason it seems that almost all other pros are managing to work with Canon but they are out to get you, but forget that for now. Next you ask what other people would suggest as a replacement for the 1Ds that is just as good but not Canon, yet right that is going to be easy to come up with. Then when people star to make suggestions you rant about them not having read the full thread. You my friend need to take a few deep breaths and relax for just a bit.

People are trying to help, give them a little slack don't you think?

i would go d2x. its like 2 cams in one.... youve got 6 mp at 8 fps (2.0 crop), and 12 mp at 5 fps (1.5 crop) . its gonna be 5 grand when it comes out, which i think is like 3 grand less than the 1dsMKII, and 12 mp is still an upgrade from what you had. I used to work at a camera store and we had problems with canon for service. Canon and konica minolta were the worst. Nikon and olympus tended to do the best job with service and warranty issues, part of the reason why i went nikon.

the 7D from Minolta has rave reviews the glass is excellent and the level of service is the best I have ever had. (in N.Z.). Canon service here is pathetic to say the least.

That was a Nikon film camera, not my 1Ds. Read the thread.

And after I say 3 times in the thread that a medium format is out of the question because they are too slow and don't accomodate long lenses how is it helping me when someone else suggests the same thing?

I mean I appreciate everyone trying to help, but to be honest, unless someone just came out with a new killer camera I never heard of I am probably better off selling the thing I have on Ebay at a loss and buying another Canon. I'm more pissed off at Nikon then I am at Canon because they can't keep up. I would have stayed with Nikon for life.

Ok, I've read the WHOLE thread now and I see the problem. You want a company that is Canon but better. Can't help you, man. But if money isn't an object, would it be worth having your camera fixed, selling it, and buying the 1DsII? I haven't much experience with Canon as the company (only their superior products). If there were some company that offered as good or better equipment who had a higher reputation than Canon, we all would have heard of them.

I guess you are right. For 35mm high resolution there is nothing that comes close to the 1Ds and the 1Ds Mark II. Canon is sitting on top of the hill with fuzzy balls at the moment with no contenders in site.

On a brighter note then the one I started this thread with and after about 20 phone calls this morning I managed to get to speak with someone from Canon who sounded a little different then the standard reply of "We're very sorry. Send it back in and we will look at it again. You should have it back in 10 to 15 business days"

This was at corporate HQ in NY. The man told me he would next day a shipping label and expedite the camera repair. He told me he would monitor the process and would take personal responsibility for getting my camera back to me in working condition.

He also sent me an application for Canons CPS program that will allow me to borrow another body or lens from Canon free any time I need one, so no matter what goes wrong I never have to be without the equipment I need.

In spite of all this I will have to maintain that as a whole Canon warranty repair sevice sucks badly.
