I've been getting comments on my picture asking if using "light" in the form of weight, as in, not heavy, was even allowed. Hopefully most voters are fully reading and understanding the challenge rules before they vote people down for not following the theme.

I thought I would take a break from entering challenges for a little while, and so I haven't kept close track of when the LIGHT challenge closed. I took this shot today, and while out to dinner with my family thought of entering it. Disappointed to learn after returning home that I'm a day late. I'm not very good at predicting my scores, but I would hope for a 6.xx for this shot. Any opinions, comments or suggestions appreciated.

The moniker Nova and you forgot the light challenge?

The pic is great and probably would have faired well in the bokeh challenge. (if half the people here even knew what bokeh is)

I have received a couple of comments relating to the fact that apparently, in some peoples' minds, light refers only the the electromagnetic variety (i.e. bright light), and 'lite' is how every other meaning of 'light' should be spelled (i.e. weight, etc). I was wondering if anyone else has received this feedback.

Yeah, well.... what can I say? Didn't exactly forget, but wasn't expecting to enter, then when this shot turned up on my monitor it dawned (<<< heh heh, a pun:)on me a bit later that maybe this would be good for the challenge. Thanks for the comment; it is especially appreciated from someone such as yourself who specializes in the type of photography I aspire to.

I can't say that I have, but then again I did not enter the challenge. Having said this, I would point out the following proviso for the contest:
Any definition of the word is acceptable for this challenge

Seems abundantly clear to me that items falling into the "light weight" category are indeed acceptable. I remain confident that had such items been excluded, this intent would have been clearly stipulated.

I am amazed that people who care enough to write comments can't be bother to read the wording of the challenge before they decide that another person's shot is in violation of the challenge which they failed read past he one word title. Makes you wonder about the level of effort expended by those who don't comment. I belive it was Churchill who said that democracy was a horrible system, however it was better than any other system humans had invented thus far. My light weight entry is being smashed flat too. Snif snif. Not that I'm bitter.

I think this is a lovely shot. Probably an 8 from me. That said, I do not know how it would have faired. My creatively lit entry is failing miserably. Judging from comments, it seems people may be having difficulty relating it to the challenge. This is not a lightbulb or neon sign or candle, so the possibly not obvious enough for some voters. (Those of you who entered these objects, please don't take offense. I am just stating these as obviously related to "light", not as bad entries.)

Its a bit disappointing as I have dropped from a high of 7.2+ never the less it is still holding on to my highest ever score so cross fingers it will start to rise and not fall any lower.

Thanks Darlene, I know what you mean. I am often at a loss when trying to figure out scoring. And speaking of scoring, time for me to get started on the LIGHT challenge. Hopefully you'll get a little bump in the right (upward!) direction when I come across your entry. Thanks again for the comment.

Nova - Looks like we were considering the same subject. I couldn't get the Nuthatches to cooperate the way I wanted them to...go figure. ;-)

Hiya dad, Funny shot! I can relate to your problems in getting the "models" to cooperate. Did you come up with another entry?

Nova - Thanks for asking. I did muster up something else, although it wasn't bird related (gave up on them that morning). Hey, I noticed your early am post in Roberts 'Rule of Thirds...'. Don't you ever sleep? ;^)

I'm at work on a 6:30am to 2:30 shift, and can get onto DPC during my frequent breaks. Lunch is winding down now (trying to wolf down this McD's salad while I type) and then back at it, training a recent transferee to our facility. Good luck on your LIGHT entry, wish I had made the deadline. See ya (gulp)!

*sigh* I am trying to remain calm here.....
My "light" submission is one of the feather ones (and that is NOT giving it away - there are plenty *s*).
I just had this comment: "Very cute theme but not quite what I thought was intended."
Can't he read? The subscription clearly included ANY interpretation of the word. I am so tempted to pm him......
Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Gotta agree with you beetle. I thought when I first read the description that well, there should be NO arguments over this one! How naive of me, should've known. And I'm late getting back now, gotta run. Later.

MY "light" entry is the most carefully-thought-out entry I have made thus far in a challenge, and is perhaps one of the best images I've made in the last 6 months, and it is hovering around 5.3 right now. It would be depressing if I allowed it to be. My "road signs", on the other hand, was shot on spur of the moment, has a total of 10 minutes of shooting/processing/submitting time, and has been as high as 7.0 and is holding in the 6's.

Gotta shake it all off and go with the flow...

Robt.

I am really suprised with my light challenge photo! I have gotten GREAT comments all of which people gave it a 10! I really feel that I may make it into the top 10 at least! I know that nobody knows who's photos are who's yet, but I want to thank people ahead of time for enjoying my photo SOOOO much!

Well I'm hanging in there with my best ever score and hoping like crazy that I can take just 1 step forward from my 4th place and snavel a ribbon in this one, tough ask though as there are lots of nice photos in the challenge.

Current score is sitting at.

There are some GREAT photos in this challenge, and while I am feeling extremely pleased with my score (highest ever!!) and hoping like crazy to maybe getting at least close to a ribbon, I am baffled at the low number of comments

Not always.

This shot of mine

was 7.2ish and finished 8th in its challenge.

However, 7.09 is an awesome score regardless of the placement
