... who will not let me take her photo. Granted she must be right in the middle of any project I'm working on, but she has this uncanny knack for moving her head away as you go to take a shot. I've even tried turning off the sound when the camera focuses -- with out any luck. Yesterday, I managed to get one shot of Sophie. Just one, mind you, but it's one more than I had!
What do you think?

1st of all- absolutly gorgeous cat!!!!
then i've got my sister cat is just like that crashes every setup i've ever done but won't let me get a shot of it for my life.
then i've got my cat who is now in her 12 year and doesn't care what i do as long as it doesn't hurt her. she doesn't view taking pics. as hurttting so she finds the best ways to get into shots.
lastly this shot goes stright into favs. nothing should be changed ultered etc. it is purrrrfact.
GREAT SHOT get her a model relice before she finds out and sues....lol

I think this is is a good artistic capture. She must be related to my cat. She's the same way. Always "helps" with all projects but if I try to get a close-up of her, all I get are teeth and claws! I have to catch her unaware. They look alike, too! :D

We have Zeus - same thing - moves, saunters away... as if it' wasn't difficult enough to catch the all black.
Any tips out there for shooting a pure black animal? That is, if I could ever get him to sit still? |

Lovely cats. I have a black one that just will not face the camera. She waits until I press the shutter to turn her head. grrr.
Brandon, on the other hand, has become quite the model. All I have to do is set up the lights and a pedestal for him, pat it a couple of times and there he is. Looks right at the lights or at me. And he sits there for as long as I want. Pretty weird. With that problem graphicfunk is having, I will be more careful with his eyesight from now on. |

Very cool photo. You may even clone out the slight hair from the lights to make it all black except the eyes.
Either way, great cat shot. |

Gorgeous black cats, all. It is really difficult to capture the details on a black cat.
I love the shot of Sophie - really mysterious looking.
Here is a shot of our first cat - Mesha (a Persian). It was so hard to get a flattering photo of him.
And our Sebastian (who now resides with my parents):

I have a black cat too and she is horrible to photgrah. She moves around a lot and because she is black the camera always tends to focuse on something brighter around her, leaving her blurry. She also tends to reflect the light a lot in photos, so you have to raelly get her in natural liht otherwise she comes out looking weird lol
But aren't black cats the cutest? lol

for them birthday i bought them a 50euro secondhandcam
its a fuji 1400zoom 1.3mp if i remember well
i spend an hour orso giving some basic instructions
one of the twins picks up this photography extremely well
she amazes me everytime she hands me over a bunch of captures she made
these are just 2 of them
i hardly did any editing/cropping on them

Thanks everyone for the comments! I'm also glad to know I'm not the only one with a stubborn cat. This is the second black Manx cat we've had so I think they are a special, but very opinionated breed.
Riggs suggested blacking out everything but her eyes, so here it is.
Reminds me of the posters for the Broadway show Cats. This is what I see in the middle of the night -- nothing but those eyes. Kind of creepy when you're only half awake!
Thanks again for the feedback and sharing your photos. Can't imagine life with out a cat.

A beautiful capture! Amazing how many have black cats! I have no troubles with my Obelix he will pose any time anywhere. I was on the roof trying to catch some beautiful colored clouds but Obelix got in the way ;)
Sorry about the big photo and not thumbnail, don't have a portfolio at DPC yet

I th ink the blacked out version (other than the eyes) works very well. I also think that if you want detail in the cat, it would be better to try to avoid the meshing between the background are foreground (or at least, at a lesser extent). It's an attractive photograph, but I would like it better if their wasn't a confusion about where the cat and background begin/end. This could just be a matter of personal taste, as I'm sure many people liked it for that very reason.

Messerschmitt, these photos taken by 11 & 12 year old's are simply amazing! They seem to have caught moments we all so long for but without much effort (so it seems because I know young kids don't have that much patience) colors are also so good specially the blue background one.
