What parameter settings do you find produce the best images? |

I usually use the set1 with the sharpness all to the left, only that one.
Then i use set2 with the contrast and sharpness to the max, this is because i really like sharp contrasting images.
Then on normal basis i use parameter 2 that it just uses the normal settings.
But if you shoot in RAW you can always change these settings on the canon program.

I don't own one, but I know it is based almost solely on personal preference. That's what the parameters are there for, so you can have the camera make what you think is the best image from the start. |

How long is a piece of string?
I'm using parameter 2 (default) for the kit lens, and parameter 1 for the 50/1.8 and 90-300USM. Or at least that's the theory, I often forget to change it, and the difference is quite small anyway.
If I'm concerned about image quality for something I switch to raw+jpeg and use the raw, although the fine jpeg's are pretty damned good out of the 20, so often I check the jpeg, and drop the raw without even opening it, as that requires a reboot into windows (I use Linux).
I think I've used raw for a source image about 5 times where the jpeg didn't quite have enough range for what I wanted. (raw is not effected by parameters, in case you didn't realise that...)
Which parameters will give you the best result in the jpeg output will depend on the scene you're shooting, and what you want to do with the image... There is no 'best' setting that would be applicable to all situations.
Just my 2c worth...
Cheers, Chris H.

I leave both of these settings on default.
I agree entirely that the photos right out of the camera probably benefit from this, but at the same time I think PS can do a better job of it as then I have the control. Hence, I leave them as standard in the camera and then adjust them myself.

I always shoot RAW. That way all of my sharpening, contrast etc is entirely up to me in my post processing. I just love the freedom I have when I shoot RAW. |
