very nice program.. probably not as good as PS, but it sure is complicated. Someone out there kind enough to explain the basics?

Its not that complicated after you figure out what and where everything is. Here is some stuff that should help you. If not I know the basics, I am no expert but I may be able to help you with anything you need. Feel free to ask.

edit:usual typo

I am a beginner to GIMP as well (2weeks young)...so at least we will be able to struggle through it together. There are some books out there for older versions but I think they will describe it well...and then I can use PS books once I realize the different naming conventions to figure out other processes...

If you don't even know how it works, what makes you think it's not as good as photoshop? The fact that it doesn't cost a few hundred?

I'm just curious about the above, i'm not trying to be sarcastic or debate which one is better, this is more of a psycology question.

I was assuming it isn't better than Photoshop based on the number of people who use PS, versus the people that use Gimp. Im new to photography and I am not sure if Gimp is a new program. It does cost less, so I also based my statement on price which doesnt necassarily mean PS is better. I also read a few threads where people have said PS is a little more complicated.
