Anyone has any experience with smugmug.com? Is their service good?

Any competitors of them out there that are good?

I am thinking of moving my photoblog //photoblog.hottermail.net to smugmug because I've been asked for some prints of my work, and have to wind up ordering prints myself for the client.

I really love Smugmug.

Uploads are quick and easy.
You can upload large, full size images.
You can sort in several ways.
They offer password protection.
Ability to make albums public, or not
Allow visitors access to print options, or not
Can block viewing of original file sizes
Can link images to forums
Can make "Share with friends" button visible, or not
Lots of bandwidth
And what really sold me - There is NO STORAGE LIMIT!
You also earn $10 for each referral which can add up.
Fairly new addition to the site is the message board

I would also like to add that I've emailed Smugmug with suggestions and praise and they replied within 24 hours. They are very nice and helpful.

Remember, if you order something other than the basic package (which has been plenty for me) you will get even more bandwidth, ability to upload video clips, and more customization.

Also see this thread and this thread.

Good luck. And feel free to use me as a referral on Smugmug. ;-) (It will save you $5)

Jen

How about USM?

What I mean is this:

When I upload a photo for a contest (like dpchallenge or photofriday), I upload a 640x400 or 800x600... I do all my sharpening after I do the resize... It would be a different sharpen for different picture size..

In smugmug, for each picture, can I upload 2 different sizes and still have it show up as one picture (one size for the purposes of showing it to people like 800x600) and a different size for printing?

You can upload as many versions of a photo as you want, but I don't think there's any way to have them show up as one picture. What I do is upload a high resolution version, and smugmug provides me with links to that photo in several different sizes (original, large, medium, small, thumbnail, etc.)

So how do you deal with the USM? do you just usm the original size... for which viewing size?

Yes, I only upload a single version of an image. Any editing, such as sharpening, will have already been done on the uploaded image.

Feel free to have a look. The link is in my signature below.
