I've got a great new camera but my photography has nose dived.

I've come to the conclusion that with my FZ2 I knew the camera and such all my concetration was on the image (with the abilities and limitations of the camera in the back of my mind). Now I'm thinking too much about the technical aspects of the camera, to the point that I'm enjoying doing such things as playing in 'M' mode and having fun with the meter, thus my attention is not on the image as much as it should be.

I'm not worried though, it's only a matter of time before I master the functionality of my camera and my transition to the next level of photography will be complete (hopefully) :)

Anyone else suffering from the same effect after an upgrade?

Totally. Went from a Canon G2 to a Canon D60 (prosumer to SLR) and couldn't cope with the way aperture and shutter speed suddenly mattered so much more.

Went from struggling to get shallow depth of field to having to work to get a deep depth of field. Went from not really caring much about shutter speed to it being critical for non-blurry pictures. Suddenly holding the camera correctly mattered to getting a good shot. No LCD to compose on prior to clicking the shutter - lots of changes.

Took a few weeks to get used to and a few months to get back up to the same level of shots.

I think most go through this "funk." I went through it after I had stopped entering because I was away from civilization working (in the bush in Labrador). I had lost touch with my creativity; I'm still working on getting my chops back (not that I had a lot to begin with mind you).

edit. Oh yeah, I went through it when I switched from the Toshiba to the Canon Rebel....big time.

Did you now that people who have brandnew cars make more accidents than those with old shabby ones? It's because they rely too much on the car's abilities instead on their own.
I think you'll just need some time to get used to your new camera.

Joy! There's something to look forward to... My new D70 should be delivered tomorrow. And I was so excited...

It's also because drivers tend to avoid banged up cars, considering the implications regarding the driver's skills/attitude; and also because new/newly bought cars tend to be fully insured : )

I'm fully expecting to take a nose-dive in the near future when I join the Badass ranks...

Until then, beware! I have Photoshop and am not afraid to use it!

yep, that pretty much tops all of us on the badass list. but what lenses is the real question. mark 2 with a 400 2.8 would make him king, not jacko.

Nope, that's my order list for starters.

Chump change really, when you consider I have more than that wrapped up in the first 2 drawers in my toolbox, with 11 more drawers in that one, plus another toolbox, plus everything in the shop.

practice in the dark.

if you can use all the basic functions with your eyes closed, it will come second nature when your out shooting.

Kinda' - I'm selling my business. (Have a serious buyer working out details) No more challenges here really - no where else to go with it.
I started it from scratch almost 5 years ago with the intent to be the best around. I've acheived all my goals and have almost everything there and everything at home paid off except the house, which we have over $260K in equity in it. Baiscally a debt free situation.

If I can't enjoy my life and do what makes me happy, then I need to find it and make it happen, and that's what I am in process of doing.

I know I'm a Nikon guy speaking out of turn here, but isn't it some kind of blasphemy to make a statement like that?

Impressive -- and you're walking away with all of the ribbons here. Maybe we need to start taking some life lessons from you!

Who said anything about walking away from here? I may have run out of fingers in the ribbon counting process, but I still have toes!

Be afraid - be very afraid!
LOL

I think he saw this and thought maybe you would let mere mortals win some ribbons.

But you were talking about your business.

That is so awesome you can do that.....
