Hello.
I'm presenting a printed portfolio to some people which will determine wether or not they decide to sell some of my Italy In Black and White project pics. I'm very happy with the pictures but I'd like to have a equaly impressive way to show them. Any suggestions?

Impressive - Can't help ya. Standard - Notebook style portfolio binder. Plus or minus 11x14. Standard black plastic or pleather, no funky colors like pink or metal cases. No zippers.

Not entirely sure what your question is...you're looking for tips on how to present a portfolio?

Generally the more time, effort and usually Money, you spend on a portfolio: the better. It's the only representation of your work that they will see..you'll be judged 100% on this. It better be good.

I'm not completely sure what to tell you, but definetly use large samples..big big enlargements..mounted...matted...not framed. And do use one of those large portfolio carrying cases. They're not just for looks, there's a reason most artists use them.

Good luck!

P.S. a disc of your work (professionally presented, not just a powerpoint presentation you whipped together) might be something to consider, at least you can leave it with them. THey're getting pretty popular.

June,

Here are some ideas from Photo Portfolio Success by John Kaplan (ISBN 1-58297-210-9). I suggest this book not only for the content about selecting images for your portfolio but also for the exercises which step you through the process of selectively removing weaker images out of small collections of photographs that are presented. The author will put 5 or 6 images together and ask you to select the one that is the weakest given the target audience of the portfolio; he then presents his selection with an explanation of why. Its great to follow his thinking as he's a pulitzer prize winner for his photography.

"Does size matter . . . absolutely!"

"Make it easy for people to look at your prints . . . there is nothing more annoying to an art director than being forced to keep turning your 'book' back and forth". (in reference to photo orientation within your book; put landscape orientation all together and then the portrait orientation)
