Sometimes the "creativity" is not apparent without some familiarity with the film. Most of the time it will be, I suppose, but many "interesting" pictures will no doubt require a little backstory to bloom. Like the Forrest Gump image on this thread way back when; if you hadn't seen the movie, you could not relate anywhere NEAR as well to that image. It's the purity of its associations that ribboned it.

Cocktail or Cock tail...
Which would score better in this challenge (photo quality aside!)

Most definitely the first picture (Cocktail). More points are given for better photography as opposed to humor. |

No, you miss my point. These are example pictures, don't think about the quality of the picture think about the interpretation of the challenge.
For the Movie 'Cocktail' you might take a picture of a cocktail drink. This works, but it is also related to the movie.
The picture of the Cockerals tail could be titled 'cocktail' like the movie but cleverly has nothing to do with it.
Just interested what others think... I'm am not anout to submit a picture of a Chickens arse... but it would be funny. (could be done stylishly?!)
Chris :-)

Well if you could somehow make the chickens backside as aesthetically pleasing as a fruity alcoholic beverage - then I'd definately vote that idea higher - you have to reward the ingenuity, plus I tend to have a soft spot for images that make me smile. |

For reference, the rules explicitly state:
"While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly."
That's why it is important to "hit the voter over the head" with the obviousness of how your entry "meets the challenge" if you care about your score... |

I'd be much more inclined to favor a rooster over a mixed drink, for cocktail, assuming they were of equal photographic quality. I am looking forward to lots of visual puns.

I don't enter many challenges and I'm often not enthralled with what I do enter. But I did enter this challenge and I'm actually quite pleased with the photo. I wonder if this is a good sign or a bad sign? |

I was going to use a picture of an old yellow dog to do Old Yeller, but I thought it would be too easy, and perhaps too cliche. I had it uploaded and everything, it is a good picture. I changed my mind an hour and a half before sunset today and went out to find something differnt. Took a lot pictures of a chosen subject and came home to try and match the best shot with a movie.

RulerZigzag - it's not "cool" to tell people enough about your photo to identify it. I suggest you edit your post and remove the details.
I started out well, was up to 6.33 after 7 votes, but now down to 5.5 after 10. Oh well, we'll see.
Edit: spoke too soon. 15 votes, down to 5.25. Hey, that's the wrong direction!!!
Edit2: Wow, I'm in a free fall. 5.15, 19 votes.

This is the first challenge I've entered where I've put a lot of thought, and work, into the photo. I must've taken 200 shots using different lighting, angles, setups, you name it. It doesn't help that I have a semi-crap camera, still it's not the camera it's the idea that does or doesn't work.
Anyway, after 11 votes it's at 4.3636 and I'm purty disappointed. *shrugs* Live and learn, right? :) |

WOW! Many, many great shots entered in this one! Competition will be brutal. Good luck to all. |

I ain't EVEN gonna comment on this one. Giving out a LOT of 9's and 10's, and a LOT of relatively low scores, and don't feel the need. Feels like an open challenge to me, which I guess basically it is. I'm just voting 'em how I like 'em, with a strong bump for anything that's truly insightful or witty as long as it's also a really good pic.

isn't it ironic: i entered photo in the Waldo challenge which would completely fit the movie challenge
Night on Earth
(entered before this one was announced)
It finished with 5.86 there, and my current entry into the movie challenge turned out to be rather unoriginal (should've guessed that!), and is doing pretty dismal at 5.26. Oh well...
(btw, if youn haven't seen "Night on Earth", you should, it's a great movie) |

'Shroom,
Anything over 6 would be dandy with me at this stage. I'm holding at around 4.6, but it's not really unexpected.

Sitting around a 3.80, I thought I would do a lot better considering I hijacked a few of my childrens toys to make the image with what I thought was a very original concept. ouch!! brutal!! Anyway beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Good luck to all my fellow movie producers/directors.

I suspect there is above average "trolling" activity in this challenge. Is there anyone with a score over 6?

Last time I checked I was over 6. It will be interesting to see if I'm still over 6 in 20 minutes.
