It`s a backpacking buddies birthday in a couple of weeks and I was thinking of giving him this:

Do you think its to much? To many pictures. Any comments

Cheers

Hi Geo. Personally, I'd go for the 'less is more' approach. A few good shots of your buddy that really show his range of expressions and feelings.

Geo,

It's WAY too much. maybe even creepy. Why? because he has the same damned expression in every image you've pasted into this collage. Is he human?

I don't mean this negatively; it's actually sort of endearing in a strange way. But, sheesh; 3 or 4 should be plenty....

I see wobble and I are on the same wavelength....

I agree with Wobble.

It's seems a very busy with all the images you have in this pic. Almost like a bunch of snaps cut out and taped to a card.

Pick out 5 or 7 of the ones you like the most. Even though you want it to be a candid representation for your buddy think slighty to the portrait side. Start with a black (dark) background. Place your clips so that buddy is looking inward (body direction as he is looking at the cam in most of the shots) toward the center. Fade (soft edges) to black. Fade to background color to frame the entire pic and drive the view back into the shot.

Just my thoughts

I agree with Andy and wobble with one exception. I would do the background in grass or something that is more or less mostly green. What you might want to do is present him with as much of his personality as possible but in an uncluttered way so each picture means something.
I think what bear was saying was that a lot of these pictures of him shows mostly one side. I don't think that will be a problem once you have selected out the 5 to 7 you want to use.
Your friend is lucky. This is a very thoughtful thing for you to do.

I agree, too busy. The pics have been cropped/masked so tightly around Peter that you can't really tell much about what he's doing. It's just a person/Peter and no surroundings - woods, mountains, lakes... I would like to see more of the surroundings. I think you could get a much nicer, less cluttered image by doing as the others have said. Use just a few really nice pictures. Maybe use one as the entire background and place the others, uncropped around the main image. Another idea, would be to use all of the photos and create a few pages and make a book. If you want to keep it easy and inexpensive just do it yourself in PS and print it at home. You seem to have a good handle on PS so it wouldn't be too difficult. You could then tie the pages together with thin rope or something. It'd be cute and he could untie the book to place any of the pages in a frame and rotate them. Just some ideas...

Quite a bit better, yes.

The second one is definitely better. I think you should try to use the picture in the upper right corner of the original pic in the place of the picture with the waterfall. Or just eliminate the waterfalls - IMO.

Much better. One or two suggestions. The picture with the walking stick I think would look a bit better if his hand could be seen holding the stick and I agree with replacing the waterfall picture. It's a nice one but doesn't seem to go with the others.
