My new rebel has arrived, and well, i am in need of some ideas and advice.

My fuji's lens cap, and there is but one in one size, is tethered to the camera - i am used to this set up.

Now with the rebel, i have caps galore - front and back and body...and nobody is tethered to anything. the lens caps are different sizes as well.

What do you all do about this? Is there a way to tether the lens cap to the lens barrel, and is that a good idea?

I put them in my pocket, my bra, or back in my camera bag. :) You should get a photographer's vest and keep your stuff in there! I really want one of those

the body cap stays home. there is always a lense attached to the camera. when switching lenses - the back lense cap gets switched from one to the other. the front cap always goes in my right hand back pocket. it's such a habit - i find many times i don't know where the cap is - when it is always in my pocket...

i also find it back on the lense alot when i think it is still in my pocket. it's like a subconcious set of motions to remove and replace it.

sounds like a plan. left rear for me though.
still moving in to the camera bag...a backpack may be in my future, i think they are kinda kool.

passed up a vest, on clearance for $9 or so back at christmas. I thought long and hard about it though.

The old way: On all of my Nikon lens caps I have been able to find a place to drill a small hole that doesn't open out into the inside - with that hole (or holes) I attach my own lanyard so I can tether it. For changing lenses, you can get little clip-things (carribeaners?) so you can switch tethers quickly too.

The new way: I use the Cokin P series filters - you can get a cap that fits on the ring. So I have one tethererd cap and a ring on each of my lenses.

The back cap I do like Soup says - the ones in the bag always have one, just swap it when you swap the lens.

the back pack bags are nice.

i have the canon 300d mounted with sigma 105mm macro - 50mm 1.8 - 75-300mm f 4-5.6 - efs 18-55mm - 550ex speedlight - lense hood - and all the small accessories tightly pack into a fairly small back pack.

delsey gopix brand.

- I don't ever use a body cap because there's always a lens on my cam. That one stays home.

- The cap on the back of the lens ... not a problem. When I switch lenses, I use the cap from the one I replaced.

- The front lens cap goes in my pocket. Only one of those off at a time.

Lens caps are not the problem. The challenge is carrying 19 pounds of gear comfortably.

You can buy generic cords to attach a cap to the lens that will work. Elastic band goes around the barrel and a sticky pad that attaches to the cap. Any camera store should have them.

I have to say that, for me, the advantages of a backpack bag are outweighed by its hassles. The biggest problem is that you have to take it off and set it down to get anything in or out of it. That's fine if you are inside a nice warm dry place, but standing in the middle of a muddy field, or shooting in a crowd? I'm going back to a nice shoulder bag.

I don't use lens caps. I screw them together (those that fit) and toss them in some obscure pocket. I'd rather wreck a $40 UV filter than put up with the hassel of juggling a dozen caps all the time.

I thought those were pretty cool to until I went to Las Vegas during summer. It was so hot the sticky pad melted. :(

UV filters are fine for the front but how do you protect the rear elements? Do you just never change lenses?

i personally would rather spend a milisecond putting a cap on than 1/2 hour cleaning the dust off the UV filters.

I often wear my backpack on my front (it's easier to get stuff out of)

So, basically you have a $40 lenscap.

I like to take everything with me, in one bag. I guarantee if i don't have i'll need it.

I ahve shoulder bag now. Lots of practice with sholder bags - used one as a book bag back in college and pretty much been lugging a diaper bag for 4 years now. Never had a backpack.

I set the shoulder bag down - too much weight and it is always in teh way. I hope a backpack will stay on my back..less to worry about getting stolen if i set it down in the wrong place.

when i bend and move the shoulder bag flops about and falls off my shoulder. a real PITA.

well, off to the mall or someplace for pics...

Do these hold a tripod?

How much?
01/06/2005 01:11:56 PM · #25
but some Velcro pads, stick one on the underside and one on the lens cap front.

Then stick your cap on your cam when shooting.

Or just put in pocket as I do.
