They are those things you buy at slave markets to cook for you, do your laundry, clean the house, raise the kids......no I'm kidding. Sorry. bad joke.
Slaves are lights that are triggered by a signal from the master. Sometime the signal is a flash of light other times it's an infrared signal. Hope that helps.

Indeed.

So it's something like flashes that are triggered simultanously with the main flash without having to use connection cables?

Correct. I'd like to hear some experiences with these as well.

I use morris slaves. I have two mini wides with gels and two of the mini slave dc's. They really add to what you can do with flash. The mini wides can be used as hair lights or to burn out backgrounds or added to the main flash with a gel to colorize the picture. The dc's aren't very strong but I sometimes use one in the hotshoe if I want to use my sigma flash as a slave. It has enough power to trigger the sigma but not enough to interfere with it, especially if you are a ways away from the subject.
Here's a question. The one you showed screws into something. What?
Here's the page for the Morris slaves at BH.
PS: Now that I'm using the g6 I have had to relearn what to use where but I'm beginning to see how everything can work together.

Isn't that going to limit the things you can use them for?
The morris mini wide ones are free standing. You can place them anywhere and they come with a sync cord which I've never used. They use 2 aa batteries. So you can carry them with and use them outside or where ever.

OK i have two of them an these are great.... not really powerfull or fast but ok for studio shooting....

Good points:
1) can be plug in any ordinary fixture
2) automatic slave (will trigger each other)
3) Small and cheep... buy a lot... for the price of a big one

Bad points:
1) not 100% reliable output power... if you take, let say 2 picture in 2-3 second... the flash will start but at 70% power... not two picture the same
2) when bounce... not powerfull enought (40w).. but 2-3 of them make the job
3) must buy a hotshoe for the rebel... but around 15$... not too bad

so, i have buy 2 set with stand and unbrella.... and the bulb for 100$ canadian... work all the time for me... in all my shooting... a have a 150 and 300 watt for main light !

The verdict.... buy not one but many.... get it for second light... buy a great main light and huge softbox.... you will have a perfect setup....

Hope it help

hsteg. Do you have a canon flash already? I would suggest you get one that is programable for your main light.
