I snapped a point and shoot of my neighbor's Italian Greyhound. If any of you are familiar with these guys, they are as fast as greased lightening.........anyway, I wanted to desaturate all colors but red. I am left with the pic included. My question is how to keep the red collar and remove all other red areas in the photo?
Thanks!!!

Desaturate the whole thing then use the history brush on the collar to bring back the color.

Use your lasso tool and select the collar, then inverse the selection and desaturate. I suggest blowing up the image about 200 - 250 % to get all the little nooks and crannies. That's what I did for this one:

you can use the painbrush tool..
set the backround color black and the forground color white.
in the paintbrush mode select Saturation.
then paint the areas you want black and white.

I would paint the collar using quickmask, then desat the rest of the image. Of course if this were basic editing rules, you'd be stuck with what you have right now.

another way, depending on the other colors in the image, is to go to hue/saturation, and desaturate all colors except red. this way you dont have to work with selections, which can be difficult at times. If im not mistaken this is legal under the basic editing rules as well.
