You could always unofficially start now to practice. Just do a week or so of images daily so you learn the limitations, stress, and pressure of doing it. Some days you'll be too tired or too busy or you didnt leave the house and at 11:58pm find you dont have anything around the house either. It's also hard to get over not only posting a photo a day but posting a 'good' photo a day.

My Town

My home town is celebrating it's 250th birthday. I am trying to put together 365 images to represent the year in Lincoln, MA. It will be shown as a slide show at a toen event later this year. I am turning some into postcards for the town giftshop. I guess if I keep it up for a few years I can replace my least favorites with better images.

I am allowed to cheat and use several images from the same day (I make the rules after all). I guess this is technically a 30 pictures a month for a year project.

Here is a deal im putting out. I will start the PAD on my website for the month of nov for a test (shoeBLADE). If you want to join in you will have free picture hosting for the PAD project (hopefully we can keep it under 300 mb and if you already have hosting you can link it through there to save me bandwidth and storage size). Dpchallenge photo pixel and file size rule applies (640 ect.). If the test goes well I will extended it through jan 1st 2006 (so a full year with 2 months to get warmed up). If you are interested send me your e-mail, if I get a few people I will post up some rules and info.

On a simialr theme to the PAD has anybody ever done a pictorial diary of an object or place?

I would love to do the life of a tree (or something similar) with a photo taken at the same place and at the same time once a week. However, we do not have any photogenic trees with real character within easy tracvelling distance. It's got to be something that you can easily get to otehrwise, if it becomes a chore, you're less likely to see it through.

...And it's hard to see the photographic potential of a tree when it's small. You might find after years of work that it turns out to be just another tree. Indeed, the life of a tree would be a gamble as a photographic project :)

Apologies, I didn't spcify what I meant clear enough.

What I meant was the diary of a tree for a year. So, you take photos weekly but cover all the seasons, ie. bare in winter, with buds and blossom, laden with leaves, leaves changing colour in autumn etc.

So, how many people are thinking of givng this PAD a go? It all starts tomorrow! :)

I'm going to give it a go, and I'm currently just making last minute tweaks to my website, //www.konador.com/photoaday :)

I'm going to be doing it starting January 1st.

I tried using simpleviewer, but it kept making my photos look irregular for some reason. The fine lines became jagged -- almost like it was compressing the file for some reason??? I definately uploaded it right and changed max file size and everything. I just joined pbase instead.

I had a photolog going for ten months this year at teabulb.com, not a photo-a-day but for the first months I did manage a daily-ish photo though. The archives are up at helgihelgi.com, and I'm beating together a new one that'll start on the 1st of January. It won't be a full on photo-a-day thing, but I'm going to try not to dip below 4 photos in a week.

I'm in a much better position to do this now than I was when I did the last one, so I'm looking forward to it

I was having that problem. You have to change the html file to make the embedded flash a specific number of pixels instead of a percentage. Otherwise, your photos will resize as people's browsers are different sizes, resulting in jaggies and all sorts. I'd join pbase but I can't afford it :P

I'M going to do a photo a day thing this year too. I have to start picking up the camera during the week. Expect lots of baby pics :)

P.S. I think Imma pick up a CAnon Elph to help me achieve my goal.

OK, as there are a number of you who are going to give it a go, then I'll keep to my original thought and have a go too. It's a good way to make sure that the camera is kept busy.

I've just got to decide the best way to display them. :)

All the best to everybody for 2005...

There's a list of photoblogging scripts and software here on photoblogs.org.

I'm going with WordPress this time around

Yep, I just started a photo a day project. I hope I can see it through.

Anyhow, it is now three days old!

But, I like this idea and I think it will help me to improve. Kind of like 365 free studies... Here is the link for those who are interested.

Woohoo! What luck. I got a Canon S230 Elph (3MP) for $92 on ebay. Went real low because it's missing the battery, AV cord, and power cord ... can easily get those on ebay for cheap. It even takes compact flash cards. Woot.

What I won.

Really great job, Clint! I too was impressed by the variety. Not only did you take a pic a day, your pics are very nice and well done. Not snaps to meet your daily requirement. Terrific job. Keep it up!

I will try this...I have to ask (for those of you who are in progress)...In your opinion, does Photo-a-day mean:

1) Upload 1 photo per day (as long as it's taken that week is close enough)

2) Photograph 1 photo per day (as long as you upload sometime that week or so is fine)

3) Photograph, post-process and upload 1 photo per day.

Do you ever cheat?

I would intend to do (2) - ie. i photo a day but upload within a week. Holidays, work etc may prevent uploading every day, as far as I'm concerned.

That was my impression...I'm going to try this as well...

I plan to just take a photo a day -- if it takes a couple days to get around to uploading it, then so be it.

This is going to be a learning experience for me. Although I'm not sure if I'm going to carry my camera with me wherever I go. Cameras aren't safe in Jeeps...not to mention I wouldn't want to leave it out there durring a 10 degree day.
