The first present I openned this morning, very very small!
However, it does not have the ability to simulate pushing the shutter button half-way down.
I plan on using it in my portrait studio, does anyone have experience with this remote? I was hoping to not have to duck down and take a look in the viewfinder before every shot, but I guess I won't have that luxury.
Any ideas? |

Hey Hey!
The remote shutter that I got a while back does have the halfway thingy. Too bad the wireless doesn't. Are you sure about this tho? it seems rather strange that it doesn't.
Congrats on the cool gift anyway!

I have used what you are talking about for some time and when I need it, it is very handy. It is intended to be used from the fron of the camera as if you were to be included in the picture or at least want to direct it from the camera front. It is not an "anywhere" wireless.
Using a cable release or timer makes much more sense for portraits, unless of course you want to be in them. |

Thanks Rooster, but I'll be returning it unless someone can tell me why I shouldn't. |

anyone?
haven't found the cable release for this puppy yet. but i'm wondering about how essential it really is (i suppose i can always reach around front of the camera somewhat.. just enough to aim the remote).. and i would suppose i could pre-focus and everything before tripping it.. not sure how often you would really need to focus the image if you're not right AT the camera looking through the viewfinder.. i would assume it's better to just focus it beforehand, then if you need to step away just fire it on its own.

I have found the wireless remote to be very handy for slow shutter speed tripod based shots and self portraits. But I am not sure why you need it to simulate a half shutter press. |

i don't think i would need the half shutter press, so i suppose i will go with the wireless when i get around to it. for now i'll just use the self-timer on those all-so-important still shots.

I got a little program for my pocket pc which I can use as a wireless remote for my rebel...which is cool and all, but I don't think I'll use it very often. It can only be used in front of the camera...

What program? I'm looking for one that will work with my HP Jornada. |

I have an iPAQ which has a Consumer IR - that is, it's strong enough to be used as a remote for tv's, etc...rather than just beaming info from one pda to another.
So if the Jornada has a Consumer-strength IR (or whatever it's called), then you're halfway there. I use a program called Nevo (which came with my iPAQ and works for my tv, stereo, etc.) and then went on the website to download the info for the Canon Rebel (which was under VCR's - Canon).
