I'm looking for a new telezoom lens for Canon 20D and i've been looking at these.
Sigma 100-300 mm F4,5-6,7 DL
Canon EOS-EF 75-300/4.0-5.6 III
Canon EOS-EF 90-300/4.5-5.6

Are they any good?
Is there others that are cheaper and better?
Please give me some advice.
Thanks in advance.

Just got the new Tamron f/3.5-6.3 XR Di 28-300mm lens. I must say, it's a GREAT lens. I was looking for a lens that was made just for a digital camera. I know a few people who have it and the pictures they took were excellent, from 28-300mm they all look excellent. I paid $360 for it and to me it's worth every penny

Tamron Lens

You can never go wrong with a canon lens, but for the money, I chose the Tamron because of the Aperture and the build of the lens.

Stay away from the Quantaray 70-300mm My comments in this thread; I think they used beer bottle glass on that one...

I returned it after 2 days of fighting with it for the Canon 55-200mm 4.5-5.6 II USM sister lens to the 18-55mm kit lens, and yes it has plastic mount but it has totally kicked the Qrays butt right from the first pic through it.

ED: While I was looking to get a (bugdet lens to get me buy) telephoto for my 20D, the reviews and samples showed the Canon 75-300mm to be a soft on the far end which influenced my decision to go 55-200mm as it was sharp through the range.

BTW: This is Macro Mode on the QRay - This is as good as it got with that thing.

I'm also looking for a good lens. I have a Nikon 5700 and the UR-E8 adapter. I was given Nikon's Wide angle lens. I'm not sure if I would use it as much as it costs and weighs though. So my question is what lens should I get?

Is the 1.5x telephoto lens by Nikon worth the purchase? What are the draw backs and benefits to this lens? Should I go with the 2x one instead for an additional 30$?

Are there any decent macro lenses available for the 5700? Something that doesn't cause vignetting and other distortions to the picture.

I got this one:

It's the Sigma 70-300mm APO Super II. I really like it.
I took this shot with it:

Iit runs about 200.00-210.00 USD.

What would be a good telephoto lens converter for the 5700 then... I'd like a lens like the one mentioned above

i'm not really familiar with the coolpix 5700, but i'm pretty sure it does not offer the ability to interchange lenses. anything you get will need to be a converter or a filter, which just screw into the front of the already attached lens. i'm not sure what the quality is for macroconverters or diopters though.

i've never used any of those lenses discraft, but here are some website that i've been trying to use for research.. they get frustrating though, because the consumer reviews tend to conflict with the objective optical ratings that are offered by the two sites.

//www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html

//www.photozone.de/bindex2.html

//www.photographyreview.com

the first two are optical test results, and the third is consumer ratings. keep in mind that while maybe a 3.9 might 'seem' low on the first site, the L lenses (which are canon's finest) only receive around 4.4 on average.

of course, it's always interesting to hear if someone here might be using those lenses, because we can look at their portfolios and see if their needs (landscapes, macros, action, etc) and skill level are appropriate. of course, a master photographer who does only action shots is going to have quite different needs than a beginning landscaper. anyway, i hope my links don't deter people from responding to this thread.
