Took this today at a local park. Can someone give me a critique?

Hi, I will try to give you my opinion as I see your photograph. The subject is exciting and has potential. The image seems to be flat, too much of the same tone throughout. If I bring up a histogram on your picture there is no black and no whites. The picture leans towards the left of the histogram and all 272,640 pixels are all clumped in about 50% of the spectrum. I believe if you could spread the pixels out giving your photograph more coverage the image would not appear to be flat. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

Cool photo, it has alot of potential. Like was mentioned, the lack of colors throughout the spectrum mute the impact.

But I like the image and think it is kind of haunting and has alot of character. Well done.

Critique:

Do you like the photo?
If so, what about it do you like?
What prompted you to make the image?
Does this place have some significance to you?
Is this a 'finished' image?
If not, how can you make it better?

Yes I like it.
I like the look, how it is kind of creepy looking.
I was trying to frame an object.
No not really.
I'm not sure.
Hopfully someone will tell me.

The question I would ask, first, is what do you intend to do with the photo? Something to hang on your wall or talk about here, is a little different than trying to get into a gallery. If it's just for you, John's first question is the only one that matters. If you want this to be representative of a burgeoning professional career, well, it isn't something I would put on my wall. Some people would probably really dig it. As my opinion, I don't think the sepia toning is particularly conducive to a creepy feeling. Maybe black and white, but the scene just isn't that creepy to me. If it were night, and ther were a full moon, or something associated with creepiness, maybe. It all depends on what you want to do with it. As far as the three pics you posted, I like the original the most. Maybe desaturate it a little, try adding some grain. go for a nostaligiac and melancholy approach. But, that's all just my opinion, do with it what you will.

Do you think this is any better. I cropped it and played with the color mixer

Looks a lot better.
I was pondering what it would look like with a black on black duotone and cropping out some of the left side to take the man subject out of center. I also lightened with layer so you could see just inside the barn door. What do you think?

As you can see there are so many ways to make a photo look good, tweak this-tweak that. But what it comes down too is what you like. I happen to think you have a great photograph here with emotion and you just had to adjust a few things to get it the way you wanted it. And I do like your third adjustment. Good Job!

I like the original very much as is Travis. It has a lot going for it and the blue sky is a perfect color tone. Since I know your first try was the sepia, I really like the improvement of tones you got with the 3rd post. Perhaps a slight crop off the either side would make the barn stand out more, but JM and Vontom have very valid points. You are the one that needs to ultimately approve of the final result and as you have already stated, there are many, many ways to make a photo look good.

Hi Travis. I think this old barn does have a creepy feel to it. Have you tried toning it with a different color? Say, steel blue, for example:
