Wonderful shot with great focus! I agree that it is one of the best gator head shots I've seen. What did you use for a lens?
edit: Sorry, what a dumb question. I see you use a Coolpix 4500.

I agree about the border. I don't think it adds to the shot. I think a closer crop would be better, with the eye at the top/left 1/3 intersecting line. Otherwise, very nice crisp shot.

Hi Jinjit. I think the photograph is quite stunning. As said before, very sharp, focused, and detailed. I think there is some chromatic aberration in the highlights (blue fringing) which detracts ever so slightly from the beauty of this image.
While some may find the border to be a bit awkward, I think it looks pretty nice. Ultimately I would prefer an equidistant frame around the edge.

i think its very nice, its what I was trying to do with this photo  I entered in a challenge a short while ago. Yours is much clearer. have you tried to bring out the reflection of the gators eye in the water? Also looks like a spot or reflection just above his snout about midway

Thanks a lot for the comments!
It was shot through glass which contributes a great deal to the haziness of the background. The dark "islands" in the back are a group of some more gators resting on the rocks.
The border is mainly to get the aspect ratio required for a print, although I'm not 100% sure the photo's large enough.

Yours is awsome!!!
The reflections look the was hey are because I didn't take the picture from above the gator, but from a parallel point to his eye, since it was in a glass aquarium.

ahhh, ok, I was a few feet above my gator out in the wild and I had a lot of shade trees to help darken up the water to get the reflection

| I, for one, like the border, though I would prefer to see it the same size on all sides. I agree too, that the subject is just a bit "too dead center", and would like to see it cropped slightly differently for more impact. A really nice crisp, clean shot though, it'll make a great print. |
