Greetings...

I was shown this tip last week and thought I would share it....

Using a digitizing tablet or a scanner, create a black and white image of your signature at a decent resolution. If you use a scanner, clean out any unwanted information in the image. You can use the levels slider to push the black and white and also paint out anyting else you don't want.

From the edit menu, choose DEFINE BRUSH and give the brush some arbitrary name... then click OK.

This new brush will appear at the bottom of your brush dialog box and you can use it in any color/size as shown here...

You could also save the image as a grayscale TIFF and place it -- this way you don't have to locate the file, but it probably adds some storage overhead to PS. You can make other specialty brushes too, like a logo. Great tip.

What do you mean by 'locate the file'?

I mean next year, when you're editing a photo and want to add your signature, you'd have to remember what folder that TIFF file is stored in and navigate to it. Of course, for organized people like yourself that's a non-issue : )

As a brush, I'm assuming the data is stored within Photoshop itself, and you avoid the step of "locating" the file.

thanks - even with a crummy scanner.

This is correct... it appears in the brush list after you define it.

Mebbe someone with decent penmanship can sign my name for me. My penmanship is so bad, I can't decode my own chop.

I have a question. I'm still at work (and working hard as you can see) so I havent tried this, but it did raise a question for me. Do you have to mask around your signature and cut out the "outside part" of it? When you flatten your image, doesn't the white part, the "paper" you wrote on show up on your photo?

Jen,

That would be true if you saved the signature as a tiff file without transparency. In a "brush" only the pixels with information show. So it's a pure overlay, no box.
