For my photography class we have an open interpration assignment on "Memory". We have to put together a series of photos on our interpration of the word "memory". I decided shoot it from the angel of "if walls could talk". I want to do a series of images of places throughout my school with a person or people in it then make the people look like ghost. I got to take on picture today afterschool that is somewhat useable. I took it in a hurry so it's not the best picture I have ever taken but I am going to post it anyway. I would really like it if someone could give me tips on how to do it either with my photo or another photo and then step by step how they did it.

One easy way to do it 'in camera' is to use a long exposure, and get the person to walk/run/skip away a few seconds into the exposure..

Other than that, use two photos... One with the person, one without. Use a tripod so the camera dosn't move, and don't change the lighting between..

Put both images into PS, one layers, and use a mask to show up the person, and set their 'opacity' to make them ghostly.. A bit of gausian blur, and some artsy smudging and you've got yourself an oscar for special effects. :-).

If you can set your camera to take a long exposure (at least 10 seconds), you can have the subject hold real still for half of the time and then jump out of the picture as fast as possible, and then allow your camera to continue taking the picture. You'll need a tripod--any movements in the camera will blur the photo.

You can use rear curtain flash too. The flash will stop the action at the end of his/her movement and give a stronger impression of the subject. I'm not really sure of the terminology here. My camera has that as a flash option.
