I captured this very strange formation this morning. Thought you might like. Levels, contrast and USM.

That is wierd, can you crop it tighter and enlarge just the immediate cloud and surroundings.

I would like to take a closer look at that posting.

That looks a lot like the image of a gril-cheese sandwich. :-)

That means you were just a few seconds late for the mother-ship. You've obviously photographed the negative energy hyperspace drive contrail from a passing UFO. ;-)

Here is another shot of it zoomed in.

Edit: forgot to rotate 90

My favorite cloud shot from recent random shootings:

That's pretty cool. Was it really that color?

That happens when the water vapor in the clouds freezes up and falls creating what looks to be a hole in the sky. Very rare.

Thanks for that, Intelli, I know some strange things happen up there...your explanation fits well and will be stored in my memory banks. Doubt if I'll ever retrieve it, but might pop up one day in trivia quiz and make me a millionaire!

I was thinking that it was a compact pocket of rising warmer air that made the "hole" and might also possibly explain the denser condensation inside. Your explanation makes sense too.

Thanks for the information, it did look more like a hole later but wasn't as interesting so I didn't waste any 0's and 1's on it. My wife was disappointed, 'cause she proclaimed it to be an Angel.

My shot? Not completely honest, I tweaked it in curves a bit to make the shadow-play pop a bit more. This was one morning about six weeks ago as I was getting ready to go to work. Sunrise and sunset clouds are a personal favorite of mine - can't resist a compelling cloud shot!

Here's the same shot, straight from the camera:

Hey Tim,

I have been reading for the past few weeks about a grilled cheese san that looked like the Virgin Mary so I'm sure there is a connection.

I really like the original full frame the best. It explains the vapor trail which was distracting to me.
I too like sunrise and sunset shots but it is hard to get something new and fresh around here. But when it happens sometimes it Really Happens!

Bill, I get a compuserve logon screen when I click your link??

Richard and KaDi, great shots all. I always shoot a good sunset, but would never enter one in a challenge. Sunsets are way too common to do well in challenges here!

The message I posted earlier was somewhat correct.

I Didn't have time to find this site again cause I was on my way out the door.

So here it is.

Excellent! I recall reading that same article now. I'm sure you are correct. Excellent example of a rare phenomenon Richard!

John,

sorry about that...I'm a rookie here, and that is the only place I've got that online...forgot about the compuserve login.

If sunsets never do well here, how do you explain thisor this ?
