'Tis the season to be singing, among other things! I'm working on a couple of Christmas song CDs and I thought it would be neat to get some ideas from you guys. What are your favorite Christmas songs? Whether they be religious, secular, rock, country, classical, whatever...list the song and the artist, but please keep each list to about 5 or so if possible. I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys learning more about DPC folks, and it will be neat to see the responses. It could possibly even lead to new favorites for us all! I'll start. I have many, many favorites, but these are absolute musts for my holiday season!
1. Mahalia Jackson's "What Child is This?"
2. Martina McBride's "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
3. Bing Crosby's "White Christmas"
4. Madonna's version of "Santa Baby"
5. Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas from the Family"
Happy Holidays!!!

You can probably guess most of mine....but Christmas Island, by Jimmy is AWESOME! Just about every song really makes you feel good! I really enjoyed Kenny Chesneys album from last year too! Burl Ives kind of represents christmas in any song that he does too.

Anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
If you haven't heard their Christmas trilogy (3 separate CDs), you need to check it out.
Each album in the trilogy tells the tale of an angel who is sent down to Earth on Christmas Eve... you can read the stories that are behind the music here:
Christmas Eve & Other Stories
The Christmas Attic
The Lost Christmas Eve
Awesome stuff. By far my favorite CDs this time of the year. And although it says "Orchestra" in their name, these guys jam with electric violins, electric guitars, etc. too...
And if you have an opportunity to see them in concert this holiday season, do it! It is an amazing sensory experience...

If anyone mentions that "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" song, I'll go crazy. I can never get that song out of my head once someone brings it up. ;-)

"Do they know it's Christmas?" would be my second favorite, "So this is Christmas" by John Lennon would be my all time favorite.

Blues Traveller does a song on "A very special xmas" I have no clue what edition it is on, and don't know what the name is, but it should be a classic!

Yep, John Lennon's "So This Is Christmas".
As for traditional Christmas songs, "Good King Wencelas".
Now, how does "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" go? I've never heard that one (probably just as well)>

not sure if it's a Christmas song, but "Evergreen" by Switchfoot is pretty good. For my favorites, I'd have to say one of the classics like "O Holy Night" or "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." Back in my saxophone playing days I soloed variations of these occasionally at church services, so I'm partial to them.

This was a favorite of my Mom's and I've kept it around as a favorite of mine now. New Christy Minstrals~Parson Brown.
Now my list would continue with...
Beatles~So This Is Christmas
Royal Gaurdmen~Snoopy's Christmas
Alvin & The Chipmunks~Christmas Song
and finally I have no idea who did the song but it is the funniest thing around my house, my 8 year old thinks the songs a riot...I Farted on Santa's Lap |
