Not sure if this would work and maybe some of you maths people could help out to see if there is a system that could work.
Here is my idea, why don't we introduce a handicap system simular to a golf handicap system. It works something like this, when you play golf there is a field of players at the end of the day a daily CCR (course rating) is calculated based on the scores of the top 12.5% of the field.
Once the CCR is known all those with better scores than the CCR(including handicap) lose between 0.3-0.1 off their handicap per stroke (point) better than the CCR. All those worse then the CCR gain 0.1 to their handicap. All those that equal the CCR stay the same. This is in a golf event. A winner of a golf event might score a 69, a winner in dpc may have a 6.9?? it could relate if an adjustment was made.
It would need some work by people with better mathimatical skills than myself but it would mean that we could keep the Overall ribbon winners and introduce Handicap winners for each challenge.
If we wanted to we could also split into grades like golf does, this system does not look at equipment used etc and might just be the answer.
Well its an idea not sure what you think about it but I'd love to hear what you think.

Scott I like the thought behind your idea but I'm not sure on 5 different challenges a week, maybe the 2 ideas can marry and use the H'cap instead of average points as it should be a fairer system in the long term.
Not sure if this should be mixed up with the other thread unless there is a basic consensus that it could work.

I understand that 5 challenges would be a lot. But the way it is designed you could only enter a maximum of 2 challenges and beginners could only enter 1 challenge. I think it would reduce the 600+ entries we have been seeing recently.
I think your idea is good as well. That̢۪s why I suggested you may want to put in the other thread.

Why?
What problem do you see that you are expecting to fix with this change?

I agree with David. Surely the point of these challenges is that the 'best' shot wins - or the shot considered best by the most voters, to be exact.
The more ribbons there are, and the more tricks and mathematical wizardry required to get one, the less the value of one.

Please read all of what I wrote, it is not ment to remove the winner as we know it.
it would mean that we could keep the Overall ribbon winners and introduce Handicap winners for each challenge.
It is to introduce a system where a second/handicap winner will also be rewarded in the same challenge for performing much better than their norm and to give everyone a chance at getting a prize.

I don't think I'd feel right if I got the 'handicapped ribbon' in a challenge. |

That's a fair enough statement, what if it wasn't a ribbon though, just a recognition badge or something. Then I suppose it could be a lot of work for little gain.
I was also thinking that it could be a usefull tool for invitational challenges rather than the number of ribbons. The invitationals could be based on handicap, above, below or in between.

Sounds like you really know your golf rules.
I agree with the idea.
I was a 6 handicap at golf and i really had to give it my all to beat a 24 or a 2 handicap.
whoever is on thier game that day wins. |

doesn't everyone here already have multiple chances weekly to win a prize?
