Stats League Table

This is a website in which you download a very tiny application (129kb, less than 1 photo!) and it runs in the background counting your key presses. I thought since we're all so chatty on these forums, we could enter a DPChallenge team into the league table for the most keystrokes.

All you have to do is sign up, download the program, log-in to the website, then join the DPChallenge team I started. The team name is DPChallenge and the ID is 6104.

The team password = photo (original eh?)

Lets move up those ranks! :)

Interesting. I am a bit too paranoid though--how does one know this doesn't have a keystroke "logger" for stealing passwords and stuff? Is the source available?

By the way, I see in the new users Langdon is already beating you Ben.

What we need here Langdon is to count presses of the update button. Let's see who wins that one. ;)

The source code is available apparently, as it says on the homepage it uses the source code from a previous project which I was also a member of. I'm not sure where it can be downloaded from, but my spyware programs haven't found anything suspect since installing.

Thats cos I only have it set to update my key strokes once per hour :)

If it counts "backspaces" I will have a huge #.

My paranoid information security background screams to stay away from things like this regardless of how innocent and legit they may seem.

Although a quick search didn't seem to turn up any negative publicity about these guys, for all i know a keystroke counter may turn into a keystroke logger with the next update.

Why are they calling it a _logger_ on their web site anyway, when it's supposed to be a counter?

If we can get laurielblack and GeneralE, the other teams don't stand a chance!

How sure are you guys that these people didn't set this thing up to get passwords, credit card numbers, ect... I mean I would like to play too, but there are some pretty sneaky people these days.

Well, I did it anyways. With all those users right now, I don't think it's a scam.

If it is a scam, I'm sure Ben will gladly compensate us for any loss that occurs as a result.

ps: laurielblack is quickly climbing the charts. Im skrrd.

Call me paranoid, but I'm not installing any keylogging software without seeing the source first... and I don't have enough time to consider packet sniffing its traffic :o)

I was paranoid also, but a bit the bullet and don't see anything wrong with it...just about a million or so people interested in how many keys they press a day, weeek, month, and so on.
