I got a few new Bird Feeders..
Here are some of my first attempts.
I think they are golden or yellow finches.
Handheld 70-200 w/ 1.4 Converter, @200 and wide open..

all of them are good shots! I like the dof, but what kinda bugs me is the colors? The background color makes it very flat?

Hmmm, very very nice. I humbly disagree with parrothead about the background. I think with these somewhat mild looking birds, one must keep the background very simple. |

I agree the Background is kinda Bland--Maybe its the color. The DOF is so Blurred out when I use the 70-200 w/tele wide open. Maybe I should try like F/8 and pump up my ISO to mantain a fast shutter speed?
These were I think at iso 200 with shutter speeds avg 1/1500 or so...

These are terrific! You show a great eye for composition along with everything else. I personally don't like the background color/tone either, but I don't know if that is a choice even - I just don't care for tans and browns myself.

You have some excellent shots there buzz. I don't mind the background color but it seems just a little dark, especially as the perch the finches are sitting on appears so bright. I would suggest that you try a slight adjustment with curves. I think you can take some of the brightness out of that white perch without much change in the rest of the picture since it is the only real bright area in the frame. This may also bring out a little more color in the background. The sharpness and detail is great. Keep shooting those bird feeders.

Great shots Tim. Those are goldfinches; the males are a very bright yellow in summer. Here's a picture I took last Spring with my old Sony Mavica CD. They really are beautiful birds. Keep the pics coming.

Very nice work!
The background looks fine to me
Is it a wooden fence in the background?
Only suggestion I would make is maybe getting some "safe" paint and paint the white bar. |
