Shutterstock,

Next to the model release information on images you should have "None Needed" instead of "N/A". That way a potential buyer knows that the legal ramifications are not in question. I have a couple of images, and I̢۪ve seen many others that contain images of unrecognizable people (thus no model release is required). I hope that these images aren̢۪t being overlooked because people might think "N/A" means Not Available instead of Not Applicable.

No big deal, but just a suggestion.

yeah.. quite a bizarre phenomonem.. how earning .20 is so exciting.. but it is the very same for me... yet if i saw 20 cents on the ground.. i am not sure i would pick it up.

heh I agree. I was so excited to wake up and check and see my first $.40 I made with photos that would have been otherwise using up space on my hard drive.

While I agree, I would probably not pick up the $.20 on the ground, if you made your living that way, you'd pick it up -- because it's all about everything adding up. Half of the things I do at work in an hour, I wouldn't do for the amount of money I make in an hour, but it's the adding up of the hours that counts :-) -- if that makes ANY sense.

It's more of a "I just woke up and I made money" factor that is cool :P

Does anyone know if shutterstock accepts dreamy effect pictures or impressionism photos?

Yap its what i'm trying to do but i have so much that if i already knew the anwser i would upload all of them right away but i uploaded 3 and i'm waiting for the approval.

If you just uploaded them be patient -- the reviewers have a big backlog of new photos after the weekend which takes a couple of days to clear out.

Is $.20 really a reasonable amount to be paid for an image? Seems pretty low to me. Just curious. Ann

Well, After less than a month I just got my 1st $100. So my answer to you is yes, each of those 0.20 add up. :-)

I've got 7 images up at shutterstock and I'm averaging a download a day since I started a week ago. Much better then I'm doing at istock with 23 images (just over $9.10 since mid June) or Dreamstime with 30 images ($3.50 since mid June).

Since I do it just for fun, any money I make at it is great.

A big congrats to you for your $100. Way to go!
11/22/2004 02:27:34 PM · #445
yeah congats.

and for of .20 is low... well yeah... if it was ONLY .20 cents.. if it is a popular image it will make quite a bit. Additionally... it is a different way of thinking as compared to selling a print, or doing a photo shoot...

Yeah its definatly a numbers game.

I'm now in my 19th day there, I started with 9 uploads to test the water and they started to sell. I have 64 downloads now ($12.80c) with my most popular photo selling 7 times so far.

I don't have a big gallery either, mostly challenge outtakes from my wife and myself. Link to My Gallery

On another side, Jon has been very actively working with all of us to make improvements to the site and ways to market the images.

Why are the photos of autumn being all rejected if we are in the months of autumn, shouldn't this be what people are looking for? just put up 10 great fotos of autumn (imo) and they where all rejected by saying they don't need it now, When will they need them on the summertime. Did anyone have the same thing happening?

Usually designers are looking a few months out for their projects. Right now you should be doing valentines and maybe even easter. That would be mid-winter to spring pictures.

Majority of my rejects from the beginning were Autumn/Fall type pictures. Oh well. Instead of challenge shoots, I've taken a couple hundred stock type shots that I will be posting soon.

We have been getting 300 autumn shots a day! So - we take the best 50 or so.. There are only so many yellow trees you could have in your library.. do a search.. there are thousands in there already.
