A while back someone posted a book in a thread that seemed fabulous. It was supposed to show several portrait and studio shots and then show where the lights were placed and which types were used and discuss the whys and wherefores. I can't find the thread. If anyone know the book, please speak up.
Other recommended reading relating lighting also welcomed.

Heya Just-married. That may well be my thread you are speaking of. I just had a look but couldn't find it, but I'll go look again.
Since posting that I have found several other books that show things the same way. They are excellent books and have really helped me learn heaps.
Ok, off to hunt. If I don't find the thread I'll rewrite the post.
Ok, found it:

those are good books. Really informative. I own one of them. I tend to learn by analyzing pictures and seeing what they did in the picture, then copying it till I get it. Then I can use the techniques I've learned to do my own thing. If I were you I'd take a look at some really good photoraphers whos work you admire and try to visualize where the lights are. it helps me.
here area few links to some of my faves:

Probably not what you're talking about, but I love the book I have that's named "photographing people: portraits/fashion/glamour" published by rotovision. Has all the how to's, shows the set up and if any reflectors or bounces were used, overhead and side view diagrams. |
