I would like some feedback on this sunset photo.
I realize it did not meet the challenge, but did I get a low score just because of that or are there other flaws to the picture? |

IMO the composition is not quite clean and uncluttered enough to make this a high-scoring photo. The lens flare near the sun isn't too bad, but it looks really bad over to the right of the frame. The blurred foreground doesn't really add anything to the shot and looks accidental.
The main critique I would give is that the photo lacks flow... the eye doesn't comfortably flow from one part of the photo to another. The sun and the branch near the sun fight to be the focal point. What would you say the focal point was here? What it has going for it is good light, there are some great colours here. |

BobsterLobster said it all i agree 100% with his critique.
but when i look at the image the sun seems to actualy work aginst it so to remide the shot of BobsterLobster's before mentioned probs. i think it braught back to a good shot by making 2 images out of it bolth of them virts.
just take and make a copie then take bolth images and crop them 1 to the left making it just a sun shot and the other to the right making the focal point the tree.
i think out of the 2 the tree should be and will look better as the focal point.
Once u do this (if u want to that is) post them back here i'm intrusted in the out come.
also maybe try some colour adjustments as the image will no longer be appering as the same settings. but as 2 diff. places entirly.

Thank you! Keep em coming... Unfortunatelly I could not get rid of the flare on the right side without using illegal editing.... I will try to post process it a bit more to see if I can make it better, and try to post the results tonight on my website... |

hey eugene
it is a really nice pic but i think the direct light from the sun is just a lot to compensate for. i do like the crop a lot better though. |

Your leading lines lead the viewers eye to the dead stick. Is that what you mean to be the main attraction? Poor little boat gets lost in the clutter. SUnsets are very hard to photograph. |

The square crop is worse. A square is like a corporate logo, static. The picture itself lacks an element of interest imo, it's just another sunset without anything to catch attention. Also, in landscapes of this kind everything should be in focus, including the elements of the picture closest to the camera. Perhaps use a wider lens, it's easier to achieve deep dof with wider lens... hth. |
