Nucking Futs

11/11/2004 01:50:52 PM · #2
This picture genuinely disturbs me, as does your Naked Lunch. But aside from that the foreground nut needs to be in focus, and the shadow on the rear nut makes it hard to see.

generally disturbs you?
a photo of a hot dog.
and a photo of pistachios.

curious what is disturbing?

i know they are off beat, but honestly don't understand what is disturbing.

You playing with that new lens :)
What do you think if it?

Fingers crossed mine will come tomorrow.

I think your pistachios have some kind of caked-on redish-brown stuff that I'm not used to seeing on my nuts. I'm guessing that your pistachios are seasoned in some way.

For the hot dog, the picture is pretty up close and personal, which I have no problem with. But the first thing my eyes go to when I look at it is the oozing green, red and yellow. Then I see the red meat. It takes a second for me to realize I'm looking at a hotdog with relish, ketchup and mustard. That's all.

Food for thought. Keep up the creativity.

anthropomorphic food porn. Certainly counts as a fairly unique and esoteric genre. I'm sure with half a dozen pieces you could get a show :)

well i appreciate the honest feedback, and can see now why the hot dog might be disgusting - to use maybe a better term.

the pistachios have a cayenne pepper coating, and are delicious.
i didn't enter this in macro becuase i thought it might be mis-received...

and yes marbo - new lense - came quicker than i thought, and it is much fun. the very shallow DOF is a bit hard to get used to, but not too bad. i should have a thread adaptor coming soon too - we'll se how that pans out.

11/11/2004 06:01:38 PM · #11
i haven't found one yet - that's why i said it 'should' be coming soon.
i'll try to let you know if i find one.

Jacko may know - i think he has the same set up i am aiming to put together.

If you're looking for a "macro coupling ring", B&H has them. If you're reversing the 50/1.4, you need a 58mm to 58mm, if the 50/1.8, you need a 58mm to 52mm.

i looked earlier - figured they had them, but didn't see it.
i'll look again tomorrow

thanks.

On B&H search under macro coupler
11/12/2004 01:39:27 PM · #17
here is the coupler for a 52mm - 58mm mount.
50mm f:1.8 mounted to sigma 105mm EX DG macro lense

52-58mm

thanks again - it's on the way for sure now ;}

on this subject - what kind of magnification should i expect with the combination?

i assume removing the UV filters would be ideal when mounting them together?

is there a need to focus the 50mm as well as the 105mm?
