"Photograph something natural that makes you laugh or wonder in amazement."
"OR WONDER IN AMAZMENT." I guess this is why I don't understand the complaining about meeting the challenge. It is right there in the description as pointed out already. This gave us the choice to shoot one of two things. I don't understand that because we chose the second of the two that we are now being told that we didn't meet the challenge.
And I am not offended. Everyone has a right to their oppinions. I am just confused as to how we didn't meet the challenge. But then again I know that many peoples ideas are different from mine. I just accept it. |

G4DS: exactly my point. I have posted that part previously. |

I understand why G4Ds is offended by this post, especially because I think his photo met the challenge completely. Granted I've only lived along the east coast of the US, but never in my life have I seen a sunset like that. Also, I laughed when I saw the balancing rock in #2, so I guess I was both wowed and amused by these challenge winners. They were bizarre in my opinion. So as someone who DID submit to this challenge and ended up 213/226 with what I thought was a bizarre and artistic picture, I'm still happy with the results of the challenge, so I wish everyone would stop complaining. If you don't think a photo meets the challenge, then don't vote on it. I'm sure that you can find at least 20% of the photos that meet the challenge to your liking.
Just my opinion.

Come on. Number 1 was just another sunset shot with an interesting (but not amazing, humorous, or bizarre) cloud formation. I highly rated number 2 for it's amazing/bizarre rock formation, composition, and technical execution. But number 3 and 4.... WTF. Just boring landscapes that have nothing whatsoever to do with the challenge.
Again, I highly rated 5 and 7 because the colors in 5 are amazing and 7 is a truly bizarre (and humorous) natural formation in wood.
I could go on and on.

LOL. You're the third or fourth person to say my shot should have had more DOF. Ummm Helllloooo! It's a macro shot! DOF even stopped down to f32 at that magnification is measured in mm not miles as in a landscape.
BTW, please explain to me how your shot is "amazing", "humorous", or "bizarre" because I'd like to know.
My boring insect macro at least is a shot of a bizarre looking animal.

Everyone on here that is happy to see the regular landscape shots do so well keep quoting this line from the challenge suggestion and ONLY this line "Photograph something natural that makes you laugh or wonder in amazement"
That would be great if that were the ONLY thing the challenge stated, but it isn't at all.
What most people chose to completely ignore was the first line: "Mother Nature often has quite the sense of humor"
THAT little line just didn't quite have the impact that the second one did. To me and I think a lot of other people, wouldn't that imply that the photos should be of things that are odd, out of place, irregular, natural mistakes or oddities, etc? Trying to make that point that a pretty sky or landscape fits into the first line of their description is really stretching it. Mother Nature doesn't have quite the sense of humor when She makes a pretty sunset or a nice looking lake or something like that.
Just my opinion, nothing else. |

Xian, well done on your 20th place in your 1st challenge.
As for my shot i thought the sky and foam formation was bizarre.

I am so glad my picture was taken as an example by Xian (nr. 7). Indeed as I saw that cutted tree and that wood formation on it I thought i'll meet this challenge... both "bizzare" and "wonder in amazement".
I say this not because is my picture but I think that when you have a challange like this you have to meet both parts: bizzare and wonder in amazement.
And I have to say the winners deserves their ribbons (even if I liked more 4th place to be first, 2nd to be 2nd and 3rd to be mine :))) just kidding... I wish so much to have a winner photo... but I still have to work alot... I'm a begginer. I am sure that I have scored better with my Bizzare photo if the technical part of it was better. I had some overexposed zones (it was taken in the middle of the day with strong sun). I should have waited for the afternoon for better lighting.. but hell.. it's to late... next time maybe :)

Thanks.
And I do actually like the symmetry of the foam and clouds in your landscape. I just didn't see it as "bizarre" or "amazing" as you did.

this is definately an amazing bizarre shot...ive never seen anything like it...there should be no argument about it
and the cloud formation here....OMG if any you see clouds like this everyday and think it is not the least bit bizarre please tell me where you live so i can move there...
everyone who questions these must remember that there are more bizarre pics in the challenge but it is also a phtography contest and the technical aspects of these are superb as well as amazing visually |

No question. I think we're just saying that some not-so-bizarre or amazing shots placed considerably higher than some really unusual images. |

EDIT- (I'm not picking on anybody... I wrote the suggestion). ;-P |
Lol, thats for the confusion. -_- I would have probably prefered something like "Amazing Nature" or "Unusual" or a description that went more with the title. ^^;;

Time to bring on the lawyers to write loop-hole free challenge wordings. There is a gigantic difference between something "bizarre" and something that makes you "wonder in amazement" - no surprise then about the variety of interpretations. |

In the summer time Colorado skies are a beautiful orange color. Not red like this one but the same effect. Just a different color.

Variety isn't such a bad thing. The top 10 finishes on Poverty bear a lot of similarities between them. I'm preeeetty sure the challenge author was aiming for creative freedom, not confusion.
I suppose it's worth noting that I didn't enter this one after suggesting it. ;-) |

Great minds think alike. My thoughts exactly, I thought the winners were good nature shots. perhaps oddball rather than bizzare may have been a better challenge discription IMHO>Originally posted by airatic: I was suprised by the results of this challenge, not to say that the winning shots weren't well done, but none of the top three are particularly bizarre. I thought there were plenty of entries that met the challenge of bizarreness *and* had quality going for them, why did such normal subjects win? |

Yesw I spotted this little cracker and voted it higher than most others I thought it met the criteria well.Originally posted by SDW65: I had several comments that satd they could not see the face in my ‘bizarre Nature’ entry. I was wondering if you were able to see it. I have circled it and it’s in a profile view. One persons comment pretty much sums up what kind of face to look for [goblin].
