Missing Her

This image is well composed. However, I think you could've done a few things in post processing to strengthen the viewers emotional connection with the loss that the man is feeling at his (wifes?) absence.

Sudden loss is a powerful and reality altering experiance. Shot in black and white, with some dodging and burning to darken the dock foreground and the distracting trees in the background would automatically draw the viewers attention to the center of the image--the grieving man and the empty seat. Because of the composition, the center (the base of the chair to the top of the man) tells me everything I need to know. Emphasize it.

I wish that the man was sharper...is this a single exposure HDR? There's definitly a halo around his shirt and jeans.

However, the idea is creative and the composition is well executed; I can't fault the entire image for a few minor flaws--8

I think the plane of focus is perfect, and it makes the image. There's great depth and the black border does an excellent job framing the image.

Also, the leaves (in focus) are so sharp i could cut myself!

In my (humble) opinion, this image is underrated. You've got such an amazing juxtaposition between the energy of the auroras and the energy of (city lights?). Not to mention, getting those damn clouds to co-operate and position in such a perfect manner is a feat in and of itself.

This image blew me away when I first saw it and I still think its amazing. Great work!

I really like the composition; its a beautiful image. However, I don't see the 'searching' in a blonde who is out for a stroll in white sheets. But a beautiful image nonetheless: 8

Portland is an amazing city, but I feel like everyone goes for river shots. Granted, it works really well in this picture, but in the future I would head to the west hills and get a panorama. Just my 2c--8
