beautiful shot! two sources of light balance very well. would probably work better with longer exposure and higher ISO. 6

Very crisp and clean focus. I love it. My attention is immediately drawn to the center of the image.. this works well with the intermittent in-focus, out of focus transition from left to right. very well composed! 9

Reminds me of the Crystaline Entity. for that, you get an 7. Compositionally, my preference would be to include the entire outline of the paperweight to give attention to it's roundess. Focus could be a bit cleaner. Overall, great shot! love the hue.

compositionally, i'd move the sunset to the middle point between the edge of the orange and the right side of the picture. but nice shot! 4

Hurray! I was half drunk when i took this shot. Under normal circumstances I'd probably not even get a ribbon! Thank you all for your very insightful and extremely helpful suggestions and encouragement. As my first entry, i really didn't know what to expect, but you've all be very supportive and positive.

I can't stress enough the power of the Canon S30. I took this shot 2 days after purchasing it used online. I've always had a fetish for perspective, unique angle, and clear focus. Definitely had to use a tripod for this shot.

The S30 naturally produces a star filter effect for all long exposures (sorry S30 owners, I let the secret out), great bonus for the camera. The amber lighting really made for mellow mood and sleepy tone. I was happy for the fact that there were many complimentary lines to use for a great depth effect. I personally like how the rail tries desperately to contain the light from the lamps.

A few people suggested cropping out the boat, and i partially agree with them. Others found the boat a positive compositional element giving broader subject range.. and i partially agree with them too. Others prefered adding people on the promenade in order to fit the theme of the challenge, but i felt it'd be too distracting. The promenade works best as a complete and intact subject. I also feel that adding people would throw the composition off balance and would saturate the picture with too many visual elements. But they were all valid suggestions and i thank them for it.

My trusty little optex tripod has a level bubble indicating flat and level footing. This helped immeasuably.

Thank you all for the very kind feedback! good luck with your Round submissions!

A little bid of oversharpening. Faster shutter possibly?

Great composition and nice crop!
