In my opinion, the shadows on the rocks from the overhead lighting doesn't "fit" with the "late sunset" background. Other than that, a great composition.

I this would have been better if it wasn't cropped so tight and showed more clearly that the watermelon was still on the vine and "growing in the garden". The tight cropping on the hands loses a lot of the "garden" character. Otherwise, nice shot.

If only you went to the 8000 block! I like this shot, and the title.

Thanks to all who took the time to comment!

I also wish the ground was "more attractive", but this was a last-minute idea, taken with less than an hour to go before the challenge deadline, so shot setup was minimal. This was shot in the garage, and was taken wherever the car happened to be parked...

Ideally I would have liked to have had her stepping out on to a red carpet, or next to something that implied a curb, etc. but there was no way I was going to be able to convince her to drive around and then stick her leg out while I took a bunch pictures. (As it was, the neighbors were probably wondering what all the flashes in our garage were!)

I really wish some of the people who voted this a 1, 2, 3 or 4 would have left some feedback as to why they thought it "sucked". The 25 people who left comments seemed to like it (average vote for commenters: 8.300).

Excellent panning! Wish the photo was bigger / less cropped...

Excellent panning in this shot! The blurred background is almost surreal looking.

I love how clear this picture is. It looks like it could be a graphic instead of a photo. Nice!

Nice shot, but unfortunatley the car looks like it could be stopped on the track, waiting for the green flag... it lacks a sense of "speed", other than knowing that this car CAN go fast.

Thanks to all those who took the time to comment!

I actually did experiment with a vertically-oriented crop of the barber/boy on the left... the problem was the arm of the barber on the right was still in the frame (unless I cut off the boy's shoe), and it bothered me, so I went with this shot instead.

I was backed into the corner of the barber shop and had a pretty limited area in which to shoot. Two other things were working against me in this relatively small space: the 1.6X crop factor of the 10D, and my lack of a real ultra-wide-angle lens (my widest is 24mm, or almost 39mm on the 10D).

The reflection totally makes this shot. Very well done.
