Bug Eyed!by SonifoComment: I like this shot a lot. I know how difficult it is to get large DOF on macro shots, but I think this shot would totally rock if the wings were less blurred. Great job. |

I'm Ready for my Closeup... by BobsterLobsterComment: The DOF in this shot is spectacular. I love how the bee and the flower are nice and crisp, and the other stuff is perfectly blurred. One of my favorites this challenge. |

The No. 2 Pencilby EddyGComment: Thanks to everyone who left comments!
This pencil is one of those that are made from compressed wood chips (or something) and not "solid wood", so when you sharpen it, you don't get the thin, continuous curly shaving -- you get a bunch of saw dust. So that explains why the pencil looks the way it does. I hate those kind of pencils, but I kind of liked it for this photo because of the texture.
As far as putting the pencil on an angle, I did try some shots like that, but it resulted in a lot less of the pencil being in the "plane of sharp focus", so only a portion of the pencil was "sharp". In retrospect, I should have tried some shots where I rotated (and then cropped) the image so I could have had the best of both worlds (all of the pencil in focus and at an angle). Hopefully I'll remember to try that next time I'm in a similar situation. |

Two Outs, Bottom of the Ninth by EddyGComment: all: Thanks for all the comments! It is pretty exciting to win my first ribbon.
marbo: good job on noticing the cobweb! There are actually two of them, one above and one below his leg, both attached to his foot. I didn't notice them while looking through the viewfinder -- it wasn't until I got home and downloaded the pics that they showed up. I wouldn't have been able to do anything about them anyway, since the sculptures are on pedestals, well out of reach.
kiwiness: the 70-200/2.8L IS is my favorite lens by far! Message edited by author 2003-09-01 10:33:54. |

Interlockedby e301Comment: I really like this composition. The only thing that bothers me a litlte bit is the reflections between the two forks -- it is somewhat distracting, and I keep looking at them trying to figure out what is making the reflections look the way they do. But maybe that is a good thing, because I've stared at your photo a long time... 8 |

Forever Leaning To The Rightby yamahondamomComment: There is a LOT of pixelization in this image -- either it has been "digitally zoomed" (which is a big no-no) or it was saved with a very low JPEG quality. All of the blockiness makes it difficult to judge the photo for what it is... |

Broken Homeby NazgulComment: I really like the way the broken bars in the photo are almost acting like pointers/arrows saying "look here!" Lots of right angles in this shot. My only comment is about the lack of detail in her outfit -- it all seems to blend together with hair, but I realize this is hard to get when shooting against a bright sky and then reducing it to "web size". Nice job. |

Tricolor anglesby Bela45Comment: The trees in the background almost looked "painted" -- perhaps intentional? Or perhaps too much sharpening. Personally I find the effect distracting. I'm having a hard time seeing how the green/red/yellow stripes give "strength" to this "Right Angles" image, although I do clearly see the right angles... |

Grant's Gardenby anderaaronComment: I would have tried to focus on the garden and not on the chicken-wire fence. Because the fence is in focus, it looks like it is the subject of your photo... |
