Winters Tear Drops by scab-labComment: Originally posted by scab-lab: Definately caught in mid air Eddie :) Took me quite a bit of shots to get this, but I did this hand held. Good timing, good light, and good luck, was what it took. |
That really is an unbelievable capture, and a well-deserved ribbon. I can't believe you got this hand-held! I guess my comment about DOF was a little harsh -- looking at this picture again, I see that the points of all 3 icicle tips are in-focus, which now that I study it some more, I really like! Awesome work as always Gary. |

Winters Tear Drops by scab-labComment: If you really caught two perfect drops in mid-air, this is an amazing capture. If the dripping water was added in after the fact, a lot less impressive. I really like the smooth gradient background. I can see how the shallow DOF accentuates certain parts of the icicle, but I would have preferred to see more of it in clearer focus, since the majority of it is out of focus... |

Subject: Scoring of future entries
Dear kiwiness:
Congratulations on your recent winning entry. As you may or may not be aware, now that you have earned ten (10) ribbons here at DPChallenge, you are now subject to the "Give Others A Chance" Scoring Adjusterâ„¢. This means that after all of the the votes are calculated into a final score, the score of any of your future entries will be multipled by 80% (0.80) in an effort to allow others to have a shot at winning a blue ribbon. Congratulations again, and thank you for your participation here at DPC.
Just kidding Gary!! Way to go on yet another Blue for your growing collection! |

Cool Cocktailsby EddyGComment: Thanks to all who took the time to comment!
As for the comments about "brighter colors", it was extremely challenging to get the various liquers as bright as they are! They aren't as opaque as I thought they would be, and using water with food coloring would have been impossible, since it is the varying densities of the alcohols that allow the layering.
If I was reshooting I think I whould replace one or two of the layered shooters with "classic" drinks to provide some balance. Message edited by author 2004-02-17 17:20:35. |

Can of worms by kiwinessComment: That is so gross! :) It reminds me of something I met see on the TV show "Fear Factor". It must have been tricky photographing those slimey things without them getting your perfectly clean white background all nasty. Anyway... great shot! |

To spike a drink by kosmikkreeperComment: Cool picture, but I guess I don't get it. I don't see the "drink" part of your literal title. I just see a drop of water and a nail (which if large enough, is also called a spike). I like the concept of "spiking a drink", but I probably would have put a "spike" in a martini glass and photographed that... |

Reflections on Eternityby dsidwellComment: I love the "painted" effect of this image! And the grid lines add a very interesting "modern" effect to the image that contrasts with the classical church architecture. Well done! My only comment is that it looks like a tiny bit of counter-clockwise rotation might have helped align the grid, but probably at the expense of tilting the church too me. |
