Mountain Roadby wkoffelComment: This is a good example of a vanishing point that's not actually in the frame. The sides of the road as well as the center lines point at it's location which is (maybe) somewhere in the mountains. Good focus and love it as a duotone (tritone?) although details get blown out the further back you go on the road. My only real issue with this photo is the gray sploth in the upper left which appears to be some bit of dust. Good effort! |

Railway to the eastby tetoComment: Great attempt but there are focusing issues. I also think this could have been composed a bit better like if you were a bit lower to the ground and maybe more biased towards one pair of tracks rather than biased towards the middle. |

Out in the Bushby biggood53Comment: Good concept but I think the road is too similar a color to the dry plants that border it. Then you add the shade from the trees and you get a road that's difficult to see let alone see the vanishing point. |

Q...A...Z...by GoboltsComment: Although I do see a vanishing point, I just don't see much visual impact. I do see a lot of dust, though. It's very important to make sure your subject is clean and not dusty. |

don't smoke in bed...by ursulasComment: The blue hue makes this photo difficult to look at. As for the cigarettes, it's difficult to see the vanishing point that they are trying to make. The more obvious vanishing point is the one made by the lines on the bed cover. Based on the title, I'm more inclned to see what the cigarettes have to offer for the challenge theme and in this case, it's not much. Sorry to sound so harsh. |

X marks the spotby MrAkamaiComment: Ooops, I forgot to correct some of my comments to reflect the photo entry change. My first entry was of an ant on a palm frond but it had multiple focus points so I entered this instead. But I still used my macro lens and no sharpening and no color balance.
Thanks everyone for your comments and they are very much appreciated! Glad I finally got a decent score! :) Now to address some of the comments...
Skiprow, I agree that the shot could have used more DOF. It is very shallow and I realized that during post processing. Very little I could do as it was night time. I thought I had all four points in focus but even using the camera's LCD and zoomed in it was difficult to really tell.
Digital Quixote, I really wanted to PM you during the voting but I had to restrain myself! :) It was just by chance that I placed the center of the X on an intersection of one of the thirds. If you take another look and imagine the thirds both horizontal and vertical you can see that the X does land on one of the intersections. I was looking at Jodie Coston's tutorials after the voting started and she mentioned this but I did mine more or less by mistake. So, technically, it's not centered like you said.
Overall, I wanted to use the shallow DOF to my advantage by placing focus on the four points of the X but it didn't work out as I had planned namely because all four are not focused. I also hoped that since I didn't enter a bug or flower that would give me extra points. Maybe next time... |

Delectible, but Deadlyby DiamondPeteComment: Great overall composition but the background could use a shallower DOF so it would be out of focus. As is, it distracts the viewer's eye. |

Golden Nebulaby sfaliceComment: Not quite sure what this is other than perhaps a yellow flower that's out of focus. The background water drops seem more exciting than the yellow blur. |

Mmmmm.... Lunchby bmatt17Comment: Background is quite distracting and focus seems to be off somewhat. The tongue is very blurry. |
