One Last Grapeby StevePaxComment: Greetings from one of the new members to the critique club.
While your subjects are somewhat ordinary you have managed with good lighting and and composition to create a photo that is enjoyable, emotional and thought provoking. I find myself asking, "Why would this (non-eating) figure be interested to hold a grape so carefully and feel remorse that there are no more. You have created a balance with not only the grape between the hands but enduced an emotion between 2 inanimate objects, with the composition(and a little help from the title). The black background helps to pull your shot together and serves to leave out any distracting elements.
Hope this helps, I am new at this. |

To the Lighthouse by dan_pendletonComment: Not sure how you captured such silky sand in this but it is beautiful as is the lighting and composition of this shot. Really spectacular. Well done! |

The Color Purpleby hopperComment: Simply spectacular, I love the contrast in the modern art vs the trees, the color of the leaves and the sculpture against the purple. Excellent compostion and balance. This certainly is my choice for blue ribbon. Absolutely stunning capture. |

Grace In Autumnby roy204Comment: I think this is a beautiful shot, but I find the border very overdone and a distraction to the beauty of your shot. 8 |

Raindropsby TooCoolComment: This is a lovely image, it is warm, colourful and interesting. My only possible suggestion might be in rotating the shot for the main leaf to be 'upright', I find myself trying to turn my head to have a better look. Another suggestion along the same lines that IMO would make it much stronger would be to run the stem of the leaf from the bottom right corner creating a diagonal. Your image is certainly sharp, in focus and I think the similarity in color tones helps to create a smooth image.
well done. |

Cracked Heartby ParentxComment: It would be important for me to know what your intention was with your shot. In my opinion it is much too central and the lighting is very harsh on it. I think in general you may want to reshoot in the shade or varying times of day, and consider the rule of thirds in respect to your composition. However, I could also see you chosing this 'harsh' composition and lighting to communicate your title, broken hearts are harsh and front and central , sort of in your face so to speak. Again, your intention with the shot is what is important.
hope that helps, I am new to the CC |

Call To Worshipby OneSweetSinComment: Shot suggestions/critique:
I would consider reshooting it at dusk, dawn or other light that is not so harsh (i.e. midday).
The shot while being in focus and sharp lacks 'wow' to me. Perhaps more 'umph' if the bell was moving. Adjusting the composition some may also help as is it is dead on straightforward. I am not sure if it is because of the curve in the building but the top of the shot looks slanted a bit to the right which I find distracting.
The subject while fitting the challenge is a likely subject, which IMO means the way it is shot should be 'extra-ordinary', creative or sensitve to the light conditions on subject.
This is my first CC attempt I hope it helps, they are just my ideas you have been at this longer than I : ).
I tried to look at it as critically as possible because it is what I would like from a critique. Was hard shot to give feedback on because no huge obvious flaws.
Happy shooting, if you do reshoot this one, would like to see it and I really like your title choice.

To the Stars by RefractedComment: Spectacular capture of the northern lights, (i am assuming). I like the way the light falls on the yellow house as well. I hope you will tell us where you were when took this. : ) |
