I think the lighting is very good in this shot, I particularly like the 'line of light' along the rim of the glass. My greatest criticsm would be its central compostion, it may make the shot a little more interesting had it been shifted a bit to the right. It is great that you did not lose any of the detail with a darker image on the handle. Overall I think this is an inviting shot, for the challenge with a creative interpretation, well done and happy shooting! P.S not sure about the blue border, I am not a big border fan, and not sure if this one adds or detracts from image...just a few thoughts.... | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 03/09/2004 11:57:27 AM | The Struggle to Let Goby OneSweetSinComment: Hi greetings from the CC, I liked that you were willing to show some real and painful emotion in your shot. My criticism is only that we did not get to see the rest of your face to help give us more of a context, I suspect many folks missed your emotion here. Technically speaking as is, it is a good detail of an eye, clear, sharp. You may want to consider PSing out the reflection in pupil and bits of eyebrow.
I am sorry for your loss, and hope you are feeling better than when you took this.
Keep up showing those emotions in your work! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 03/08/2004 06:03:57 PM | conflict on the roadby jsmileyComment: Greetings from the CC, I think what i find most lacking in your shot is some perspective, it is a bit too close up to really tell what it is. I think it is an interesting interpretation of topic but without title not sure I would of known what it is. Taking a few steps back may have really helped IMO. I also think that if you use an 'ordinary' subject i.e. car, that you need to do something to make it grab your attn. I would like to see more of the damage. Perhaps using the mirror as a point of interest to reflect more would of been nice too. Just some ideas hope it helps, keep shooting. |
| 03/08/2004 05:58:49 PM | Fighting for the topby nicklevyComment: Hi greetings from the CC. IMP this image does not display too much conflict, tho I am not such a topic stickler. I think one of the biggest challenges in photography is choosing a subject, I think it is important IMO that the topic has some universal appeal, and a topic like 'conflict' is emotional in nature, I think this shot is emotionally flat.
As far as strictly technical, the DOF is done well, I would like to see some more color in the shot to add some drama, perhaps with a darker bckgrnd and some softer lighting? Or food dye in the water?
Being a studio type shot I would of also given a little more room on the top and bottom so subjects not so close to edges.
Hope this was not too harsh a comment, and that it is food for thought, keep shooting! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 03/08/2004 05:50:41 PM | A Game Of Conflictby JamieWillmottComment: Hi greetings from the CC, I find this subject while fitting the topic of limited appeal, while on dpc fitting the topic is key to a lot of participants, yet I think finding images that are engaging outside the challenge is important as well. IMO producing shots that show emotion or have an ability to wow the viewer are the goals of our craft. I would encourage you to find subjects that (perhaps fit the challenge) that are also engaging and have a universal vs. limited appeal. Just my thoughts, hope it helps. Technically, the shot is sharp, the lighting is ok but looks a bit shadowed?. Happy shooting! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 03/08/2004 10:53:57 AM | Get Outta My Face!!by ShelleyComment: Hi greetings from the CC, well you certainly found a conflict : ), I am glad I am not in this cage. I will start with saying this is a great capture, and often to get a good capture some things have to fall by the way side, in a perfect world the things I think that would of improved your shot a little would be, a bit more room on the bottom so back paws and tail not cut off. A higher aperature to get a bit of DOF would of blurred the background possibly enough so that you could fool some viewers that the shot was taken at the zoo. Overall however very good capture with great exposure, and sharp. I am enthralled by the lions paw size. Good work and happy shooting! |
| 03/06/2004 11:33:18 PM | Wallby cmangisComment: Greetings from the CC, this shot has a bit of an alex colville feel to it, the light on the wall is certainly the highlight IMO. I feel like the compositon could be a little stronger, perhaps cropping the right more to place the bold line over to the right a bit more. As it stands it is a bit to central IMO. My other thought would be to reduce the 'strength' of the bold line it is a somewhat overpowering focus, which may be your intention, however, i would like to bath in that light in the background a little more, I think you would like alex colvilles work may give you some ideas...
good eye, keep shooting : ) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 03/06/2004 11:00:55 PM | Physical Altercationby cbellerComment: Greetings from the CC, well congrats on being one of the few people in the challenge who displayed conflict. (not that i am stickler on topicality). The expression on the 'slugged' face is fabulous, I think you did very well at capturing the feeling of being hit, the half opened eyes, stunned feel...I am suprised this shot did not do much better. the black and white and the lighting are also very well done, clear sharp with nice tones. I like the compostion and the fact that the hand seems to come out of no where, adding to the feeling/expression of the guy being hit.
Very good job, well done and keep shooting : ) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 03/06/2004 09:09:15 PM | Air Gun & Dried Flowerby fsieradzkiComment: Hi greetings from the CC, the image is sharp, there is a good strong diagonal line, the objects while interesting esp. in combination with each other. Wondering why you cropped out the top left portion? The shot certainly possesses technical merit however it lacks a bit of 'wow' in my opinion. I think this challenge makes it very hard to pick a subject that wows, so you have met the challenge. Well done happy shooting! |
