Twistedby hannekeComment: Scary. I think that even though this is meant to disturb, we should still be able to see a catch light in the eyes (think of an evil glint in the eyes). I have a strong aversion to the sight of skin being covered in makeup or paint that dates back to early childhood but this doesn't repell me as much as this type of effort on DPC usually does. This is a good thing. I like composition and the texture of the peeling makeup. |

The Calm Afterby hideoutComment: This is refreshing on two levels--it is an unusual landscape and an unusual pet portrait. You have managed to break away from two cliches in one shot. Also, it looks great. Kudos! |

Daddy, can I feed the birds?by gseidenComment: This is very nice but it looks like the boy is covered with glowing leeches. What in the world is that on his coat? This would be such a lovely image if it weren't for that incredibly distracting detail. I love the blurred motion of the gulls, the pink sky, and the capture of the boy holding out his offering while his dad looks on. I like the path converging in this distance. There is a real sense of place to this image. The boy could be in sharper focus (and there is that matter of his glowing coat). I'm not sure how to vote on this since I like almost everything about the picture but the glowing stuff is really hard to ignore. |

Headless Horseman Bridgeby JMSComment: Is there something about photographing water in the woods that creates this extreme contrastiness in the surrounding rocks and trees? So many of these images seem to have this problem. I like the capture of the water but would like to see more midtone detail in the rocks and at in the tree in the foreground. |

Fire in the Skyby vultukComment: Nice capture of the sunset and I like the trees silhouetted against the sky but I don't like the expanse of darkness covering half the frame. |

Jaapby PanoComment: Didn't I see this in a recent American commercial? Still, it's a witty portrait and well done. I like the contrast of the gold frame against the blue sky. I'm guessing by the name of the subect this isn't American anyway. :D |

Emotionsby DeniseBernadetteComment: Nice capture of his/her expression. Good catch light in the eyes. A problem I have is I feel like I'm seeing more detail in the area behind the chimmp than I am in its hair (fur?). |

The Birdby HsteinarComment: I don't find this to be a goood subject for a silhouette. I'm guessing you were attracted by the shapes of the nest and the twigs but there seems to be too much going on with the wires and the spot of blue leads my eye to nowhere. I'd like to see the bird clearly. Instead I'm looking at a boring wire structure and an equally boring patch of sky. I reccommend next time, in shooting a subject that forces you to point your camera to the sky, you bracket your exposure because this is a case where your light meter is being fooled by the amount of light coming from the sky (this may be by setting your EV rating to + something or you may have more sophisticated equipment that allows you to do this manually). Of course, you may already know this information and were simply going for the silhouette effect. |

El Chamanby rameviComment: Nice environmental portrait. It really conveys a bit of who this man is. |
