Drink For Tomorrow We Shall Die!by carloComment: Are these ants in snow? I didn't even know they were active outdoors in winter time. Wierd. This is an unusual composition. It's very contrasty and processed looking which appears to have been an artistic choice. I kind of like the odd quality of the extremely blurred ants on the outskirts and the blue highlights resulting from the extreme level-pushing (my guess anyway). Weird and refreshing if a bit out there for the average taste. |

The Buck Stops Hereby spreadcomComment: I think this would be better if the deer were looking at the viewer. What do people love about deer if not their liquid brown eyes? I'm sure this wasn't an easy capture and it's hard to tell how much time you had before he bounded off. It's a nice effort. |

Ambush!by jeeptuningComment: I'm not really getting the sense of imminent danger from an ambush. Is the photographer the ambusher? The bird is just too far away and overwhelmed by the not very interesting trees for this to have much impact on me, even as a silhouette. Also, it appears to be a bit blurry. Nice effort. Keep at it. |

BACK OFF, PAPA'S HUNGRYby kablinkiComment: Very dramatic capture. I'd like to see sharper details--the bird isn't standing out quite enough from the background--I like to see crisper deliniation of form. The bird's eye looks a bit glazed over to me because of the strong glare in its pupil. It has a fairly strong emotional impact but this is sort of built in given the gory content. It would have been really powerful if the bird had been looking at the viewer instead off-frame. Overall, it's a cool shot. It just lacks a bit in image quality for me. |

The Kaka. New Zealand's native Parrot. (a real show off)by kiwinickComment: This is an interesting subject. The image is a bit too contrasty for me. This looks like the result of fill-flash. To soften the harsh effect of artificial light you can try taping a bit of wax paper over the flash. The other effect of flash is it is difficult to get a good catch light in the eye which is what adds the sparkle of life to a living subject in a photo. The background could be blurred quite a bit more to really isolate the bird, especially since this isn't a particularly colorful bird. The other way to isolate him a bit from a distracting background is choose a different angle of view, eliminating the tree trunk (which is very similar in color and texture) and placing him in front of a background that won't compete as much with his brown feathers. In this case the natural choice would be the green leaves. Particularly bothersome to me is the branch that appears to be growing out of the side of his head. This is an engaging subject and a nice effort. More attention is needed in terms of eliminating visual clutter. |

Turkey Buzzard Circles For Foodby jrjrComment: This is a dramatic point of view. Unfortunaltey, there is not quite enough detail in the buzzard to really grab my interest. I want to see the gleam in its eye as it looks down. |

Thats it I am out of hereby brens29Comment: Nice capture. The image quality leaves a bit to be desired. There is a noisy quality which, for me, generally detracts from nature shots where the viewer really wants to see great detail in an animal (and its habits) which they may rarely see in person. There are some nice hints of color in the duck which save this a bit for me. |

Reflectionsby MattOComment: Very nice capture of the reflection. It looks like you may have sacrificed some detail in the duck to achieve it though. I can't make out any textural details in its feathers and the eye doesn't have the catch light that adds that sparkle of life to a living subject in a photo. Still, it's a strong effort. |

Dancing foxesby cathysappComment: Certainly not a natural enviroment for foxes but as far as I know foxes are non-domesticated animals. These sure are appealing. I don't think this is a great shot in terms of composition and image quality though. While it captures the foxes in a position that makes it appear they are dancing, which is cute, it doesn't capture much else to engage my interest. The foxes are surrounded by too much drab background and they aren't large enough in the frame to really draw the viewer in beyond that initial emotional reaction to their cuteness. Ultimately, there is too much distance between the viewer and the subject. |
