Soft & Spikyby timfythetooComment: This is a bit too contrasty for me. There is very little midtone detail. I really dislike the pink color cast that I'm seeing on my monitor. With an extra light pointed more toward the background you could have eliminated quite a bit of the harsh shadows under the ribbon. This looks like a case where the camera was fooled by the white background, thus the lack of good detail in the dark vegetation. Shooting a subject with a great deal of tonal contrast can be tricky because of the different exposure requirements. In this case, capturing the texture of the vegetation should take precedent. Nice effort. |

Fiery Filamentsby DianaBComment: Interesting texture and color. I'm not crazy about this kind of narrow cropping though. |

Worn and Weatheredby karmatComment: Very nice exposure and cropping. This reminds me of a couple of photos in my portfolio, actually. I think the blades of grass in the corner detract a bit but I can see how it would be hard to crop them out. |

Patternsby graphicfunkComment: It kind of looks like an astronomical photo. Good capture of texture. The orange could have a titch more detail in the shadow area. I'm not sure I love the color---I don't know if this is selective desaturation or if the pebbly texture is that color but I'm not crazy about the effect. |

Beauty By The Seashoreby TechoComment: Luminous. Very pretty capture. It reminds me a bit of a photo of seaweed I have in my portfolio. Great image quality and perfect exposure, IMO. I haven't seen all the entries yet but this should be in the top 5. |

"Peanut on Black"by tfarrell23Comment: Who knew a peanut could look this good? I'd like to see a bit more of the shadow detail on the shell holding the peanut---just in the front rounded bit under the rim. |

Elephantby tkjaerComment: Very nice. A bit darker and contrasty-er than I would like. I'd like to see it a bit lighter, especially, around its eye. Great cropping. |

Texture is Measured in Yearsby Canadian_ehComment: A very nice portrait of a lovely elderly woman. She reminds me a bit of my favorite Aunt (Clara). I notice her glasses have very little glare---difficult to achieve sometimes. What a nice smile she has. One wants to linger a bit at this photo. The directness and friendliness of her smile, the twinkle in her eyes draw you right in. |

Garlic and Onionby DeniseBernadetteComment: "Ooohhh...." was my first thought when this image popped up. It looks like something from a good cooking magazine. I'm not crazy about the handle in the upper part of the frame though. I love the warm natural-looking light. It gives the roots a nice glow and the textures a revealed nicely. |
